Sri Lanka Cricket only Announced the official squad for the 1st Test, not for the 2nd and 3rd test so they will bring in a replacement for the injured Asela Gunaratne and back up for the failed Dimuth Karunaratne. Also, bring in another wicket taking bowler instead of Dilruwan Perera who was useless as a bowler in the 1st test against India.

Most Likely Sri Lanka XI for the 2nd Test against India-
1.  Upul Tharanga (Left-hand Batsman)
2.  Dimuth Karunaratne (Left-hand Batsman)
3.  Kusal Mendis (Right-hand Batsman)
4.  Dinesh Chandimal (Right-hand Batsman)(Captain)
5.  Angelo Mathews (Right-hand Batsman)
6.  Charith Asalanka (All-Rounder)(Left-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
7.  Niroshan Dickwella (Left-hand Batsman)(Wicket-keeper)
8.  Rangana Herath (Slow left-arm orthodox)
9.  Lakshan Sandakan (Slow left-arm chinaman)
10. Nuwan Pradeep (Right-Arm Fast-Medium)
11. Vishwa Fernando (Left-Arm Medium)

But If  Dinesh Chandimal is still injured and if Rangana Herath has fractured his middle finger on his bowling hand from day 3 of the first test against India.
Alternative XI-
1.  Upul Tharanga (Left-hand Batsman)(Captain)
2.  Dimuth Karunaratne (Left-hand Batsman)
3.  Kusal Mendis (Right-hand Batsman)
4.  Dhananjaya de Silva(All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)/Roshen Sliva(Right-hand Batsman)
5.  Angelo Mathews (Right-hand Batsman)
6.  Charith Asalanka (All-Rounder)(Left-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
7.  Niroshan Dickwella (Left-hand Batsman)(Wicket-keeper)
8.  Malinda Pushpakumara(Slow left-arm orthodox)
9.  Lakshan Sandakan (Slow left-arm chinaman)
10. Nuwan Pradeep (Right-Arm Fast-Medium)
11. Vishwa Fernando (Left-Arm Medium)

  • Sri Lanka will probably will not replace  Dimuth Karunaratne after his second innings performance in the 1st Test against India.
  • They probably will replace Danushka Gunathilaka since he can only bat at the top of the order and shuffling the batting order was one of the reasons for the batting collapse. Therefore for the 2nd test, they probably will go back to their previous batting order.

I feel Sadeera Samarawickrama is more of a long term option in the Test side like Kusal Mendis we need to back the youngster and we can beat the Indians like the Australians last year.
Also you also have to understand that Danushka Gunathilaka is already performing well in the Limited Over Cricket and giving him a chance in Test series is a good thing but if he fails in the Test side it could affect him in the ODIs and T20s as Test cricket is a completely different thing. This is what happened with Lahiru Thirimanne and we don`t want to do that to Danushka Gunathilaka.

Asanka Gurusinha in a interview with espncricinfo

Andrew Fidel Fernando Asked-Who is going to form the core of the Sri Lanka batting order?

Asanka Gurusinha Responded with- It might be too early, but I believe Kusal Mendis is one batsman who a lot of people are going to be talking about in the next ten years. He's one of the most hard-working guys I've seen at training. He's very committed and always wants to learn. At a very young age, he's got a very good record. The other guy is Niroshan Dickwella. He's very similar. Most probably he's more aggressive than Kusal, which is a great thing to have as a leader one day. There are other batsmen coming up - Sadeera Samarawickrama, Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka. There's a lot of U-19 guys in the last couple of years who are really doing well. I think if we manage them well and give them the opportunities, in the next two years or so we will have a very good side.

I'm not a big fan of Dilruwan but he has contributed immensely. I would have him play Asela's role for the rest of the series and pick another front line bowler instead of Danajaya or Asalanka that you have suggested.
Any replacements should be familiar with SSC and has a consistent record at this ground.

That`s True but in my opinion Dilruwan Perea is 35 years old and is only picked for the tours at home so I would rather pick Charith Asalanka who is youngster just as effective as any international player and has been among the Top Wicket Takers and Top Run Scores in recent Tournaments and is just as effective as Asela Gunaratne plus a better Fielder.

We need to find a matching winning all-rounder like Asela Gunaratne and I think Charith Asalanka is the person.

Also Most Likely Sri Lanka XI for the 2nd Test against India-
1. Upul Tharanga (Left-hand Batsman)
2. Dimuth Karunaratne (Left-hand Batsman)
3. Kusal Mendis (Right-hand Batsman)

6. Charith Asalanka (All-Rounder)(Left-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
7. Niroshan Dickwella (Left-hand Batsman)(Wicket-keeper)
8. Rangana Herath (Slow left-arm orthodox)
9. Lakshan Sandakan (Slow left-arm chinaman)/Dilruwan Perera(Right-Arm Off Spinner)
10. Nuwan Pradeep (Right-Arm Fast-Medium)
11. Vishwa Fernando (Left-Arm Medium)

We need a player who can strength both batting and bowling departments that`s Charith Asalanka because sri lanka does have the trend of failing in bowling or batting in each match.

So no place for the next big thing averaging 31 at home and given a test sport and payed two of the poorest test shots to get out! So why did we pick Gunathileka and I guess now we need to drop him after one test? Why not give him another test? Why did we pick him ahead of Dhananjaya who has already shown some mettle? Well we don't know! We don't know why we select these players, when to drop them, weather to drop them!! We just don't seem to know which is so very sad.

I like the idea of Asalanka but lets not drop him after one test. If that is the case lets hold him till the next series against a lower ranked team so we don't destroy yet another career.

If the best next batters we have are like Gunathileke, may as well play Perera as a batter to add to his bowling and go in with 5 bowlers than batter who are look plain poor.
