10. Vishwa Fernando (Left-Arm Fast-Medium)/ Lahiru Gamage(Right-Arm Medium-Fast)

14.Ron Chandraguptha/Udara Jayasundera/Minod Bhanuka (Left-hand Batsman)(Possible Replacement for Sadeera)

Dilruwan Perera Vs Shehan Jayasuriya-

Dilruwan Perera in the Series against India-
Formant-Test
Position in the Team- Experienced Bowling All-Rounder
No.Test- 3
Bowling Average- 58.62 Econ-4.37
Batting Average- 12.40
Verdict-Extremely Poor performance

Vs

Shehan Jayasuriya in the Series against West Indies A-
Formant-First-Class
Position in the Team- Bowling All-Rounder
No.Test- 3
Bowling Average- 15.38  Econ-2.87
Batting Average- 20
Verdict- Top-Class performance
Recent Notable Performance-
6/60 against West Indies A
5-109 Against Australia

  • For an Experienced Player Dilruwan Perera has proven that he can`t lead the Team with the ball without Ranagana Herath and is very bad with Rangana Herath getting close to the end of his career. Therefore Sri Lanka should look for Alternative Bowlers.
  • Shehan Jayasuriya has performed very well with the ball as he is someone like Ravindra Jadeja who changes his bowling action or uses the crease well. Also when given the opportunity he can build an innings and score Big scores or give a Quick-fire 50 if required.

Shehan Jayasuriya First-Class Record
Age- 26
Matches - 54
Batting Average - 39.92
100s - 6
50s - 22
Highest - 237
Bowling Average- 25.86
Wickets - 116

  • Also, Shehan Jayasuriya is 26 young and deserves a chance to prove himself also it better is he start against Bangladesh.Dilruwan Perera is 35 and is very inconsistent and not effective therefore Sri Lanka should try something new.

Vimukthi Perera Place in the Squad-
Formant-First-Class
Position in the Team- Left-Arm Fast-Medium
No.Test- 62
Bowling Average- 26.91  Econ-3.77
Verdict- Top-Class performance

  • Like Roshen Sliva he has been one of Sri Lanka`s Consistent Domestic and A Team Performers and is one of the Best Bowlers in Sri Lanka.

Niroshen Dickwella Obmission and Dhananjaya De Sliva only playing Test for now-

  • Dhananjaya de Silva should stay with Test Cricket only for the Next 6 months and Cement his position at No.3 as Jumping across different format has been one of the reasons why young players are struggling to perform at the start of there career. Also, I think Niroshan Dickwella should stay with ODIs and T20s as Test cricket does not suit him and it is affecting his level of aggressive batting as Test cricket is now affecting his Limited Over Game.Instead, Kusal Mendis Should replace Niroshan Dickwella in Test.

With Asela Gunarathna in the reserves this might indicate a good batting line up. It surely does. Also no place for Dimuth. This is a strong batting line up

It is worthwhile looking at SL's top ranked test batters, according to their batting averages during past 18 months since Aug 1st , 2016 to date (batted at No 1-5 spots):

1) LD Chandimal - 19 ing/ 933 @ 54.88 Av/ 45 SR- 3 x 100 / 5 x 50+

2) DKarunaratne - 38 ing/ 1400 @ 38.75 Av/ 46 SR- 4 x 100/ 6 x 50+

3) WU Tharanga - 16 ing / 549 @ 36.60 Av / 56 SR- 2 x 100/ 3 x 50+

4) BKG Mendis- 32 ing/ 1102 @ 34.43 Av /60 SR – 3 x 100 / 3 x 50+

5) DM de Silva - 7 ing / 189 @ 31.50 AV/ 48 SR- 1 x 100*

6) AD Mathews - 23 ing / 677 @ 29.43 AV / 50 SR- 1 x 100/ 4 x 50+

To have the strongest possible solid batting unit for Tests, Upul Tharanga should be included to OPEN with Dimuth K. Since Upul was relieved from captaincy responsibilities in ODIs, now he is free to take part in Tests.

Opening position is vital & the newcomer Sadeera is certainly not up to the mark at international level, as hyped on substandard domestic scene.

Sadeera managed just 125 runs @ 15.62 Average from his 8 consecutive test innings on perfect batting decks, including 2 ducks in his 3 single digit scores & gathered 2 consecutive ducks in his 2 Odis as well causing SL to doom.

Opener Kaushal Silva is a total failure as well. He managed just 465 runs @ 23.05 Av from 20 Test innings played during past 18 months.

Therefore the best available strongest Test batting lineup should be:

1) Dimuth K
2) U Tharanga
3) DM de Silva
4) Chandimal
5) Mathews
6) Asela G
7) Roshen S / K Mendis / Dickwella

Mr. Julius But Sadeera is a talent he should be given more chances. He is just 22 do not disregard based on this tour. This is a tough tour and he deserve few consecutive opportnuties. See with Dhananjaya he gets droopeed but such a talent. This is the same with Sadeera. We can cleary see his talent.

@ Mr Statguru

If the player is truly good as all hype says, 10 straight international innings is more than enough to show some value in performances, as seen with all other truly gifted youngsters & newcomers such as Asela Gunarathne, Dhanajaya de Silva, Roshen Silva, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella etc.

Otherwise, it will be a futile effort dumping more & more matches without gaining anything. The best example for that kind of horrendous wastage seen with Kusal Janith Perera's 50+ odis & three years long ODI stint as Opener. That significantly caused lot of damage to the side, repeatedly destabilizing the entire batting order from top. That is one of the reasons why SL in this abyss today.

We have no time to pamper or waste on such absurdity & SL need to rise from the dead as soon as possible. To do that we immediately need capable, experienced & proven hands, but no more experiments.!

Opening spot is the most vital one in test cricket & it needs consistency, ability & vast experience to deal with the new ball while putting runs on the board playing long innings with tons.

Is there anyone better than Opener Upul Tharanga to do it, having recorded the highest number of international hundreds (18 x 100+) & (43 x 50+) among all players in SL today?

If such an Opener is in form, he would be the AUTOMATIC choice for the job in any nation (other than SL). Because it is not a trade that you can specialized overnight.

If Sadeera is 22 , let him play more domestic & SL A matches, before pushing to the deep end straight away. Let him prove his metal first in 2nd string internationals. If he is good, he has more than enough time to join the big league.

Having said all this, I don't expect SL's Tilted cog wheel will ever turn in right direction.
Guys like Ashley de Silva governing the board, the college tie would become the final criteria unless Minister Dayasiri intervened somehow .. :D

Mr X I like that line up in particular the top 7. Perhaps the order of the 7 can be tinkered with. I like Chandimal taking the gloves as it allows ability to pick other specialist players like you have done even with captaincy. However even with the triple burden i'd push him higher than 7. 5 or 6 depending if SL have long time in the field before hand.

Interesting stats about Dilruwan. I'd probably give him the nod again. He just became quickest SL bowler to 100 wickets didn't he. It's hard to take the series in India alone as even Herath struggled. And India play spin better than anyone else. He took a 5 wicket haul in the last innings he bowled against Pakistan.

What's the status on Herath's injury. I'm sure he will be fine but just wondering. The backup spinners picked are important

It will be nice if they can get Vishwa Fernando going and so you have quick that is right arm and another left arm to add some variety. If they are lucky Angelo can bowl a few overs.

In general great team
