PhotoWill the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) and Caribbean Premier League clash? When will this year's SLPL be held?Dhanushka Abheygunawardena

At the moment the Caribbean Premier League and the SLPL are overlapping each other. The window set for the SLPL is August 9 to September 7.

What was it like batting with Sanath Jayasuriya when he scored 189 in Sharjah against India? We saw you supporting him well and always talking to him, what did you say to him? Did he take your advice?Karthik Maharaja

It was awesome batting with Sanath. It was probably his best knock as well. We were under pressure when I did walk in and we needed a partnership badly. In Sharjah, to be competitive, teams need to score close to 300 batting first, as the dew would set in later and make life tough for the bowlers. Initially, it was about hanging in there, but shortly after, Sanath found his zone. When Sanath gets into this zone, as his partner, you have to make sure you do everything possible to keep him on strike, be it by running fast and turning ones into twos (we were both very quick between wickets) or by even dropping the ball into gaps to get him on strike. There are times when you do find him panicking. In those times, you just have to make sure you keep him away from strike. On this day though, there was none of that — he was hitting it smoothly and I was just in his ear telling him how much I was enjoying it and reminding him of our little targets. It was important he did not get carried away by trying to hit every ball out of the UAE.

What was Aravinda de Silva like in the dressing room?Gehan M. Pushpakumara

Aravinda was pretty quite. He would roam around the dressing room though and loved to pick food off others' plates. The same can be said when it came to bats as well. If he saw one he liked in a team-mate's bag, he would take it and no one would dare stop him. He was happy to give advise when asked and would do quite a bit of shadow batting.

Why did you move to Australia? After your retirement, your expertise and experience should have remained in Sri Lanka to help our youngsters. Will you ever move back and take on a coaching role at SLC if you were offered the chance?Ajitha Geegamage

I moved looking for work opportunities, which was important at the time, considering the fact that I have a young family. If ever there was a suitable opportunity, I would most certainly consider it.

What do you think of Thisara Perera's performance at the IPL this year? Do you think he should bat higher up the order for Sri Lanka?Namal Thushara

Thisara has been outstanding and has contributed to his team's cause as a quality all-rounder. I am still not convinced that he is great under pressure. He needs to be used wisely and when the situation demands quick runs. Batting up the order is not an option, unless he plays the role of a pinch-hitter. Hopefully, he will mature and develop his batting skills, as age is on his side and there are plenty of areas to improve on. Just imagine how dangerous he would be if he can achieve that balance between attack and defence?

Have you noticed in slow-motion replays that most of Sri Lanka's fast bowlers have poor wrist positions when releasing the ball and the seam is most often wobbl? Is this an issue due to lack of proper coaching? It is the basics of fast bowling, so why are Sri Lanka's best fast bowlers struggling to get the basics right? Is this also the reason why they don't swing the ball much?Ravi Karunarathna

They do practice getting the wrist behind the ball, but executing it under pressure is the issue. In domestic cricket, the quicks don't bowl much. When they do bowl, the pitches are usually sluggish, slow-paced and low. So the slower balls, the cutters and other variations come into play. Bowlers end up getting carried away with the art that helps them survive in home conditions, so they do tend to forget the basics of swing bowling. Sticking to the basics in this scenario requires a lot of effort. In international cricket, when under pressure, you end up falling back on what you have always been doing.
