@ stromy

I really don't know about the bowling. The only thing i can think of is the fast bowlers need to work on their defensive skills.yorkers, slower balls, slow bouncers, using the crease to change the angles. Also akila dananjaya needs to improve his control , too many drag downs at the moment .

The selectors need to look at bowlers with allround skills .At the moment we have guys who can bowl well at the start but can't finish at the end overs.

vikum sanjaya, the kid who bowls like malinga (if he can swing the ball),Asitha fernando all are good prospects.

Apologies all for the comment above - got my wires crossed!

On the 5 day test, the best example for the need for 5 days test was the last two test SL V Pak. Everything happened in the 5th day and would have been a meaningful 4 day game. Yes there are some issues with test cricket but this doesn't mean you change the very essence of the game.

We already play 4 day cricket - its called first class cricket in SA and AUS which is why we need 5 day tests at international level.

Kusal Mendis's failure as a ODI batsman is a major reason.

Your strategy is completely right I agree too. But Milinda is failed under good bowler. Wanidu and kusal perera should included. Kusal perera, dickwella, sadeera, mendis, asela, mathews and wanindu/thirimanne are good combination I think.

Yes this is insanity but this is also SLC! I really don't get why we are incapable of learning our lesson. We played around this so called tactic of moving players up and down the order and eventually in and out and learnt our lesson but apparently not all of us. Here we are with a talented player messing around with him all over again. Just give him a spot and make it his for the next few years. What have we to lose?

Ironically in this series we have moved Mendis from his #3 spot to let Thiri (in tests) and Chandi (in 50 overs) experiment. No surprises they both failed but I am not sure why we keep playing this game of swapping and changing. We have already agreed that was a flawed practice of the past but here we are continuing with it. Just give Mendis a spot (#3 or 4) and let him settle in to that over a period of time. It too late now to be thinking if he is the future or not. He is it so lets give him a spot and let him settle down once and for all. Other wise we are creating the next Thiri!

Interesting read with a totally batting focus which is a problem and could be fixed but the bowling is a bigger issue with no apparently solutions in sight. When you can't beat Zim on spin friendly home conditions you have a problem and Zim twice chased down big scores in SL.

The batting is solvable and as the write points out, with the correct thinking. The selections remain a challenge and again why are we carrying players like Kapu, I understand he was dropped by his club team! I also agree with the write's point that paying Tharanga, Chandi and Thiri in the top 4 is like when Eng used to play Strauss, Cook and Bell. When we used to beat Eng silly and wonder what is wrong with their selections. All capable batters but not for the current limited overs game.

The idea is to come up with a plan that if it works, it will be successful. The plan of Thiri, Tharanga and Chandi is not going to be successful no matter how well they play. Thinking clearly and making a plan that makes sense is the key.

First question is are the SLC officials happy to go on holiday to Pakistan with their families? If not get over it and let the guys play in the UAE just like every other team in the world does.

Next question is what is the point of playing one game in Pakistan? What exactly is everyone trying to prove? Finally, lets say we play the one game and its a total success, then what? Is Eng, Ind, Aus, etc going to play in Pakistan? Well no, they won't so why are we going down this painful path of trying to decide and possibly forcing the players to play.

Lets just for one moment consider what could go wrong. Well everything and the cost is huge so why and what again are we trying to prove.

If the SLC officials want to prove something they should go on a holiday to Pakistan with their families and let us know all about it.
