Playing 11 for the first test

Using Kaushal silva as an opener was a bad decision taken by the selection committee as his playing style and height is not ideal for an openner. He was the most prolific middle order batsman we had in the domestic games at that time.
However, I believe he should be tried again in the middle order and see the performance

1. Dimuth
2. Sadeera
3. Mendis
4. Chandimal
5. Thirimanna
6. Kaushal siva
7. Dilruwan
8. Sandakan
9. Herath
10. Nuwan Pradeep
11. Lakmal

Dilruwan's bowling performance has not been effective in recent past. However, he should be considered for the 1st test due to his recent batting performance and the balance he brings into the side.

The only issue I find...

The only issue I find against Dinith's X1 is Silva has to play as the WK. So Dickwella loses his place.

Will you bring Silva who has been out of form & out of the team for a quite time instead of Dickwella. Then the question with the continuity breaks.Dickwella should be groomed for that position (now that Kusal P. is injured.Open with Dimuth & Sadeera, it brings a new face to this very important place.

Dilruwan should play as Asela (all rounder).

The question is Thrimanne, right into the Test Team just because of 2 ODIs & blime, as VC. How prudent is this choice. Feels the selectors given into pressure. We wish him to do well but in any case Thrimanne's choice is from the heart not from the brain. If he does not perform again, we are stuck with him again.

Thiri has to play

I presume things cannot get any worse than the last two home series, we hope anyway. Thirimane has the opportunity to make the new selectors look like the old one's by failing again OR repay us all by making some runs and give the new selectors the chance to be brave. It has been a brave move to recall him but will be a stupid one if he bats like he did in the past!

The good news is there is no Misbah and Younis although they have groomed Azar Ali and Azad Shafiq who are now seasoned batters with a solid record and technique (this is where Chandi and Thiri were supposed to be). Babar is a talent while Safraz can be a game changer. Pakistan always seem to have the bowlers both spin and pace, growing on some tree but they will be led by Aamier and Yasir Shah (remember we couldnt play him last time around!).

I am hopeful of Sadeera getting a game and been given the confidence that he will play this and the next series - every game. I presume the selectors will play Kaushal Silva in the first or in the second if Sadeera fails! I sincerely hope this is not the case as if that is the case may as well put Sanath in charge. I would also play Sandakhan the whole series (and the next). If he does nothing, that's fine, we cant be just swapping players every game in the hope someone one will be a match winner. How many match winning bowlers have we had except for Herath anyway.

I expect Pakistan to win the series but they can be up and down and with some of the stalwarts not around, we just need to compete and stay in the game for long enough. For example, lets not win the toss and bat and be 4 down by lunch on the opening day.

The craziest final day!

The test was going no where thanks to two lethargic batting displays by both teams but the last day made up for the 4! SL were gone for all money but somehow found something from somewhere. All credit to the boys and what can you say about Ranga other than 'what a legend'. Dilruwan played an important support role too but I thought Niroshan was a savior in both innings with critical knocks to get us something to play with.

There was a lot more to the game and Chandi played a disciplined innings to hold things together and it was good to see Dimuth follow up a great series against India with another quality knock.

Thiri was just plain poor and disappointing. He get's a flat lifeless first day wicket and gets himself a duck. Then falls to a part timer finishing an over for the injured bowler while playing a really poor shot. Kaushal Silva did little to get excited about.

A win is a god send right now and lets hope this leads to something.

What the Thiri!

Well, we recall Thiri and give him the #3 spot and what does he do? Fail..and then get injured! Seriously what is going on. The good news is Mendis can go back to the all important #3 spot, hang on, probably need to play Sadeera at #3 so here we go again, messing around with the batting order and wandering why the guys can't settle. Kaushal Silva is surely playing for his career and needs to repay the faith the selectors put in him.

Rare opportunity to win a series away so the call is for runs (as always). Just needs to get enough to keep the game going and transfer pressure to Pakistan. No idea what the wicket is like but a thought would be to play as extra batter. Pakistan are under huge pressure as they simply cannot afford to lose this game at any cost. They were not supposed to lose the last one either and they can be dodgy under pressure to the idea is to not give away the advantage and wait for them to make the mistakes.

Fingers crossed for a good performance and the start of something new.

Should be interesting, given that day/night tests are a new concept. All the best to Sadeera, looks a good talent.

Is there a case to be made to give Kusal Mendis a break for the rest of the tour? He definitely seems to be in a rut, and given his youth a break may help more than keeping him in the side and waiting it out, as you would do with a more experienced player.

Also, how the heck did Perera and Kapugedara get into the ODI squad!? When will our selectors let go of them. They definitely haven't paid back the investment on them, despite their obvious talent. Should've given a good run to some other players like Shanaka or Sadeera, rather than those two numpties. Good to Vandersay back in the mix though.
