Fact is at this period of time the SA team is better than the SL team.. There is no one to blame no new coach or captain is going to change that ..all that matters is learning from mistakes and moving on.. The author makes some good points in decision making ie.. Sending kusal at number 3 ..But just ask your self the question if not Mathews who ?.. England has root.. India had virat.. Our best and only choice for captain like it or not is Angelo Mathews.. please feel free to disagree in replys

Milinda Siriwardena, Dasun Shanaka and Jeffory Vandersay were among most promising players around and their stay in the national team was short lived despite good performances and there were no reasons given by the Captain, Coach, Selectors or the Board President for axing of these players. Yes the Captain, Coach, Selectors or the Board President have the right to select their players, if so then they have to back it up by good performance and apparently it is not happening. Like any other job if the Captain, Coach, Selectors or the Board President given the authority over the selection they should be responsible for the outcome.

Mathews should not destroy careers of talented players especially considering situation our team is in at the moment. What has happened to Milinda, Dasun etc? Who is following them? Dhananjaya?

Lohitha's picture

Thilanga and Sanath are the two main selectors so dont blame Mathews or any player when your favourites are not playing.

@Lohitha, looks like your favorite is Mathews and you don't like people blaming him

Guys this is crappy journalism at its best... Dhanajaya was never dropped from the team... In 3rd T20, Dhanajaya scored his runs with 70SR in a T20 match.

MHM's picture

@RM before criticizing journalists, why do you highlight just one performance of a player? That is biased criticism.

Well the problem is not with the captain or the selectors. Problem is our batters. including Mathews. If you axe mathews from captaincy, your best choice is either chandimal or tharanga. Tharanga hasn't secured his place in the team yet. Also Tharanga and Chandimal won't be able to win matches if SL scores less than 200 runs in almost every game. But people criticize Mathews, because they want Tharnga to captain. Just see the result at the end of this series. And if Mathews is not letting tharanga open, why isn't he opening under his captaincy?? Right now the whole team is trying to win matches. Our batters and fielders have a lot to improve. Otherwise no captain can solve this matter.

@MHM: Journalist can criticize anybody. Why can't readers criticize journalist? Bear in mind this is a democratic country. When they really don't have enough evidence they write with "?" at the end. Same happened here... stupid readers get misunderstood by such crappy stuff.. I am 100% when chasing 170 runs , he scored his runs with 70SR, if he hadn't got out we would have lost from a big margin... Luckily Seekuge and Asela did the job for us.

The player (Asela) who had the best average (75) in Zimbabwe Test tour was dropped in the selection in favour of sanaths buddy "Kusal Perera" for SA Test squad. Did any journalist point out that? So what is encouragement to the player? Journalist have there own agendas in money driven market..
