Kumar SangakkaraAfter five consecutive defeats, former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara led the Deccan Chargers to their first victory in this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament last evening.

Sangakkara, the captain of the team from Hyderabad, appeared to be a relieved man while talking to reporters after Deccan Chargers beat Pune Warriors by 18 runs at the at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium on Thursday.

"Yeah, finally on the board. It was a great effort, especially by Cameron White with the bat [and] JP Duminy," Sangakkara said at the post-match presentation.

"We got off to a good start with Shikhar Dhawan and Parthiv [Patel] and I thought the bowlers were outstanding today.

"We played Rusty [Theron] for a purpose and he was outstanding. But young Ashish Reddy was right up there [as well]."

"I thought we bowled well in situations. [It's] something that we may not have done so well before and we managed to hold our catches at crucial times. Those are the little things that really counted for us today," Sangakkara added.

Sangakkara's form has been worrying for his team. The key batsman averages just 16.60 after five innings.

Despite their win, the charges still languish at the bottom of the points table. They however have nine matches remaining in the tournament to turn things around.

Let's hope Sangakkara finds some good form in the upcoming matches.
It's just a matter of playing the way that he knows to play rather than trying to be an alien.
