Selector’s blunders behind debacle

It is also learnt the Samaraweera incident had more to do with politics involving past cricketers who still poke their fingers into the present dressing-room affairs than cricket. Dilshan moving into the middle means two rookies – Tharanga Paranavithana and Lahiru Thirimanne are given the task...

My suggestions to current debacle:

Dilshan should resign as the cricket captain and should get back to the team as an opening batsman. Thilan Should be member of the Test side. Marvan Atapattu the batting coach should resign. The selection committee should be sacked. SLC should hold democratic elections and appoint members to SLC accordingly. Highly talented cricketers such as Dinesh Chandimal should be a permanent team member.

I believe Chandimal likes to bat at number 3 so he should be given the opportunity to bat at number three and move Sangakkara (number 4 bat) and the rest of the batting order down. Upul Tharanga who bats like a Test batsman in ODIs should be Dilshan's opening partner in Tests. The pathetic Thirimanna & Paranawithana who are club standard players that score runs slowly with very slow Run-Rate with no rhythm should be dropped from the Test team. Ajantha Mendis, where is he? Mendis should be the number one spinner of the side not, Rangana Herath.

Lastly, Mahela or Sangakkara should be asked to captain the side once more. If either of those two don't wants to captain the national team then appoint Anjelo Mathews. My question is if South Africa appointed Graeme Smith when he was 22 years with NO Test match experience why can't Sri Lanka appoint Mathews to the captaincy. After all, the way Dilshan has captained the side it can't go any worse right?

The Daily Mirror is always filled with this type of crap, baseless accusations. Its obvious that we cant have all 4- Mahela,Sanga,Dilshan and Thilan in the playing XI, all are +30.We need some youngsters in the team although Thilan could have been in the squad.

The argument that Thilan has an average of +50 is nonsense, what has Mahela(+50 av.) done in this series so far??On current form, from Mahela,Sanga and Thilan it was Thilan who had to be dropped.

Well Ajantha is injured so he can't play can he? and Rangana has performed much better than him and Randiv anyway. Chandimal imo anyway is still not ready for test cricket, the struggles against Bollinger and co exposed his weakness which can be overcome of course in the future, with experience no way he should play at no 3 in tests. One player who should be given a go is Kaushal (I know he failed but that is just one test)even as a batsman he has performed well in Fc games (avr. of 46 in 100 games) which includes a majority of A games in England South Africa etc. and has performed well.
It is very unfair to blame a young guy like Thirimanne he has looked solid,I admit there were times he could have scored faster but even great test batsmen like Dravid Chanderpaul Kallis gets the same mistakes sometimes.
I agree with Sulaimaan Thilan is 35 and has struggled in tough tours even in the past, there is no way one can say If Thilan was there he will do brilliantly like you said even Mahela has struggled,I hope Kaushal takes his chance in the 3rd test and scores bug runs and he can be our new no 05,06 believe me he is very good

One great article. I agree with Amden aiya "if South Africa appointed Graeme Smith when he was 22 years with NO Test match experience why can't Sri Lanka appoint Mathews to the captaincy". Hahaha may be someone inside SLC does not like the fact that one of his parents are HINDU !!!

An assumption we can think of SLC is not looking to the future, they dont seem to have plan for the future.

I am sure the selectors might be regretting after dropping samaraweera in the Pakistan tour.

Clearly we were lacking a second spinner in the test match. Was Dilshan thinking he was better that SURAJ RANDIV ???

Sri Lanka cricket has lost a good opening batsmen, and produced a poor captain.

I dont know if you have notice during the matches, theres sure some mis-communication going on between the senior players and dilshan. Makes me feel like dilshan is not willing to listen to some people in the field.

Please take Dilshan out of the Captaincy. And appoint someone else, it will not only be good for SLC but also Dilshan.
