no idea why Malinga is not playing, i think its a silly move by SLC. Malinga hasnt played cricket in a long time, the best thing to do is giving him practice ahead of the champions trophy. i hope that he wasnt dropped just because it's only against Bangladesh, you can't underestimate Bangladesh, especially with what we saw today.
Also im dissapointed that Pushpakumara was not selected because currently we havent got a frontline spinner (sandakan still needs a lot to learn)

anyways despite that i really like the team. my XI

upul tharanga
niroshan dickwella
dhanushka gunathillaka
kusal mendis
asela gunaratne
sachith pathirana
thisara perera
seekuge prassana
vikum sanjaya
lakshan sandakan
suranga lakmal

not sure if Chandimal will be called up, if he his then replace gunathillaka, but i do hope he does play instead of chandimal. lahiru kumara is good, but Vikum Sanjaya showed how well he bowls in the shorter format against Australia so most likely he will be chosen instead.

Good squad except for Sachith Pathirana and Thisara. All know why sachith is there.

I think shehan jayasuiya should have been considered on his current form and off-spin skills.(BD has got some left handers in the top order, but there is no proper off-spinner in this squad)

May be thisara was selected keeping the champions trophy in mind, but I don't think it will work.

Given below is the comment I made on the article "Angelo Mathews says his tendon is still sore" February 25, 2017 and a response by a gentleman.

Resting for IPL, starting in early April? I feel that this is a move by SLC and Mathews to make sure that Mathews is fully fit for the IPL and to get the "Big Money" for Mathews and "Retainer Fee" for SLC Board. Do you think that the "Big Boys" care about Sri Lankan matches when there is another opportunity to make money? I do not think that Mathews will play during the Bangladesh tour. May be the two T20s at the most. I think the 3 doctor-panel is a "front" to legitimize Mathew's claim. This is my angle of looking at this issue. Hope I am wrong.

Sri Lanka has a lot of mad people? The person who has left the comment above thinks Mathews is resting for IPl. Ha ha ha!"

It seems that I am right since Mathews is not in the ODI team.
Mr. Lokesh, do you still think that I am mad? Anyway, I thank you for your response.

I believe that Malinga is following Mathews. Both of them, with the blessings from SLC, are making sure that they will be injury-free for the IPL. They want the "big Money" while SLC is interested in the "Retainer Fee" from the IPL.

Here is my prediction. Mathews will not play the two T20 games while Malinga will play since he has to manage ONLY 8 overs which he will use as a warm up for the IPL. There is also a possibility that even Malinga will skip the T20s.

I do not blame any of them. I Think that is the way to go. Why risk that amount of money? Any way, It is good that Mathew and Malinga will not play ODIs since;

1) Thinking about the injuries will not allow Mathew to give 100% and

2)other player will get a chance to play for SL in place of Mathews in ODIs and T20s.

Mr. Lokesh, take care!

Should play full strength side. Hope they didn't rest Malinga!

Agree Dimith. But I want to know why Sacith Pathirana and Tharanga is in the squad. Surely it's about time Chandimal took over the captaincy from a inconsistent at the best and a horrible fielder. I wonder how many catches he is going to drop.

There is an interesting predicament facing SL - where does Tharanga (the captain) bat. Surely he has to open but we have atleast 4 other options and I thought after his showing in the t20's in Oz, Munaweera would get a look in ahead of Kusal Perera. Yes we also have 4 keepers in the side.

Surprised to see Chandi in after the SA tour I thought it was agreed (well by us on this forum!) that Chandi should possibly be left out of limited overs cricket for a while to try other options.

So we are back to Thisera Perera are we? The horrible thing is he is probably going to have a blast of a series and then do nothing for the next two years! I would have tried Dasun Shanaka.

What is wrong with Dhammika prasad and Dhananjaya de silva? Where is Malinga?? Srilankan selectors are playing poker with the players. Sad

Dhananjaya was selected for the ODI squad. Dhammika prasad is still recovering from surgery. For Malinga i have no idea.
