lol this is funny. every time we lose, we look to others to put the blame on. We gota look at the bigger picture. We need our players to perform. they need to work on their fitness

Atapattu is a negative coach. May be politics withing the admin. No proper team selection. Look at Chandika, he is a very positive on the other hand, BD playing some aggressive cricket like we used to play in 90's. Even if he comes he will face the same political mess. We need a independent foreign coach. from the day Atapattu took over the tea we are going backwards.

I agree with Amila, Marvan is a negative coach and we need a foreign coach to our team. Since he took over the coaching job we haven't performed well. Most of time they hire foreign consultants to help him out.

Same England team with different coach, beat New Zealand... I can say the same with Bangladesh team....

We need a coach like Tom Moody to take us forward....Don't blame the selectors....They have selected the best 15 players

I agree, when we loose we want to put the blowtorch on someone. But Marvans coaching abilities is there for everyone's to see. I think it's time to get rid of him. He proved when he was a batting coach, he has proven again that he is useless as a coach.

No one should be sacked mid series as it doesn't achieve anything.
Half of those options are not really realistic/practical at this moment in time

It doesn't matter half or quarter way. Attapattu never should have been in the place where he is being difficult with other coaching staff. So much so Chaminda Vaas has to leave. I think it's short term pain for long term gain. SLC should be ruthless and should make Attapattu as an example. If you don't deliver you should be moved on.

Marvan is undoubtedly the worst coach that a Test playing nation has. Unqualified, politically influenced, ineffective, old fashioned and the list goes on. I do not think he is the only reason for the sorry situation we are currently in but he sure is a part of it. Last time when the board elected him, they called for applications from foreign coaches and however they had this guy pre-selected already. It totally tarnished our image becauze of the way we handled in unprofessionally. Now I don't thnk SL can even advertise for new coaches. If there is a man who is willing to come by heart, not for money that would be a Sri Lankan. I can;t imagine a better Sl coach than Hathurusinghe but he will probably not come, given that he is doing really well with the BD team. I have said this before and I am saying this again, if we had hired Hathrusinghe when Fabrace left, (He had not accepted BD position by then) we could have even gone as far as to the final of the world cup. That that fighting mentality he has given to BD players is exactly what we are missing. Marvan will make sure he nullifies the rest too.

We cant be having this debate each time we lose a game! Firstly you cant keep blaming the coach if there is no talent or available talent is not performing. Like Hathu has found, if a couple of 20 years olds arrived and took 5fers on debut, I am sure we will be singing praises for Marvan.

We must also realize how we got to Marvan. The Tom Moody's of this world are out of the picture for SL in terms of affordability and not everyone wants to get involved with a cricket board that is run like a farm. Also, we looked and could only afford some unknown second grade coach from Eng and thus settled for Marvan. Sacking him now is not suddenly going to resolve the real issues of a coach.

@Stormy, well said about the push to sack Marvan. Dhoni has recently made comments about Duncan Fletcher which reflect the reality that when players cross the white line, it is up to them to deliver. Marvan is an easy mark when the team is failing. As you have indicated, there is not sufficient depth of talent to have a competitive Test team at this time. What is being advocated in some quarters is to drop the captain, sack the coach, drop players etc. The suggested cure is worse than the disease! Patience is the watchword. We are going through a re-building phase and have to live through all that entails. No point thrashing around like chickens with their heads cut off. There is no silver bullet to get us back. Just time, patience, and good management.

Marvan is one of the worst coaches going around. If SLC can sack Marvan after the Pakistan series, I would like to have a foreing coach rather than a local coach.
