Sri Lanka Cricket Quotes

"When there's inconsistent selection, as a player you feel that even your own dressing room is creating doubts in your head, let alone the doubts that the opposition is creating. You can prepare for the opposition, but when there are doubts from the dressing room, that can really affect you. You don't know where you stand. I've experienced that, and I think that's happening in the Sri Lanka set-up now."

"The situation is getting bleaker and bleaker. In my opinion, we have to revamp our cricket system completely. At times, I wish, like what happened in India, the Supreme Court or, whatever getting involved. We only could wish if the President and the Prime Minister would realise that this is the only thing that held our people together. Done so much during times of strife, wars and everything; we stood out as a nation and did wonders in cricket. They should not let this fall."

"One of the main things that the current Sri Lankan team really needs is security and confidence ... also to have some sort of continuity. You can't really have 44 players playing in a year's time in the one-day team where only 11 play at a time."

"You can't really have 44 players playing cricket in a year's time in a one-day team where only 11 play at a time. So they churned out four teams, which is unfortunate. Lot of people don't. One of the things that the current Sri Lankan team needs is to have some sort of continuity. If you're not emotionally mature or mentally skilled enough, most people won't thrive in an environment where there is insecurity, where either you're looking over your shoulder, or above your head, waiting for that sword to fall."

"I always did well when there was a crisis as it made me aggressive. That's the way I played the game, and that's what we teach some of the kids in my academy in Dubai or when I talk to some cricketers now. Aggression is important. I think a lot of them worry about failure. You should try to eliminate that and just go out there and be positive, being that made me successful."

"It's important to back these guys and give them confidence. Once they lose confidence, it's very tough to rebuild it."

"When I bowl it is a problem. When I don't bowl it is also a problem. I don't really care about what others say. I'll do what my gut says in the middle. I'm the captain. I need to take decisions. Whatever I feel is best I will do to after talking with senior players. I'm not bothered about what other people say. Opening bowling is something I have always done from 2009, especially in these conditions, where the pitches have a lot of grass. Even Champaka (Ramanayake – Bowling Coach) and Coach Graham Ford says to bowl early since I swing and seam a lot more. Especially guys like Lahiru Kumara and Nuwan Pradeep are better off with the semi-new ball as they have better control."
