Mahela Jayawardene at a cancer charity walk

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene greets a young boy climbing down a staircase during a charity walk in the central town of Thambuttegama on July 16, 2011. The 27-day walk is organized by a local charity, the Colours of Trust, to raise USD 2 million to build a cancer unit in a hospital in the former northern war-hit Jaffna, just over two years after the island ended a 37-year separatist conflict with Tamil Tiger rebels. He lost his brother to cancer, didn't he? I recall reading that helping people with this terrible illness has always been important to him.
