The only bowler with two World Cup hat-tricks

Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga raises the ball to the cheering crowds, who gave him a standing ovation at the end of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 group stage match between Sri Lanka and Kenya played at the R. Premadasa stadium on March 1. Malinga decimated the Kenyan batting line up, picking up 6/38, which included a hat-trick, making him the only bowler, thus far, to have two World Cup hat-tricks. The right arm speedster is also the only bowler to have claimed four wickets in four deliveries, which he accomplished at the 2007 World Cup. AFP PHOTO/Ishara S. KODIKARA.

I am at a loss to understand why the selectors did not play Malinga for the second match at least. Dump the result aside, but does it not provide the champion bowler who has displayed more character than our current Captain ,who has a long way to go to accomplish this to increase his tally of wickets. If it is strategic then he should have at least played against Canada. An injured player can't deliver with such a ferocious comeback.....making him the only bowler in the history of world cup to achieve this rare feat twice....ominous signs indeed for future opposition. His comeback is full of character..unlike the captain who failed to reach a hundred when within sight of one against the minnows Canada and yet again failed to make a half ton with just a single away from it....This is not leading from the front. Pull up your socks Kumar....u need a reality check

We should have played him against Pakistan because it was just a strain. He rested for the Canada match and then after Pak game he could have had even more rest. Should have taken a pain injection and played against Pak. If we lose to Australia it will prove to be a master blunder because NZ are desperate to win now. Lose that one too and we are in trouble.
