To say Arjuna was overrated is a joke. Like Clive Lloyd, Alan Border, and the likes he took over a team that had skill and talent but was inexperienced enough to utilise it successfully to win games. These captains did the hard work in the early tough and ugly periods to pave way for the team success later on.
To say SL won 96 WC because of Windies and Aus boycott is nonsense. All it did was ensured they make the Qualifying final. In that tournament the top 8 teams went into the QFs so they would have made it anyway!
The only mistake Azhar made in the semis was inserting SL one a pitch that crumbled and a square that was fairly recently relaid. But given what happened in group matches its not surprising.
The Dav-Arjuna combination improved a lot of things for the team, but it was Arjuna's street fighting attitude that instilled confidence and a no fear approach to the others, much like Ganguly did for India after.
Tactically Mahela was probably best of the lot and Marvan not bad and Hashan the worst. Sanath had Murali and Vaas at their peaks.Of late the captains have lacked the killer instinct or ability to motivate their colleagues and to lack of leadership from front in Finals or major matches hence the losses.
