We should let Sangakkara go after the T 20 WC. I think SLC should not hire him and Jayawardena. If SLC does, it will allow these two to get first hand info about our players and pass it onto the other teams in the future.

The possibility of them being contracted by others are high due to their fluency in English, their desire to associate foreigners, enjoy other countries and the need to make money.

They are not the only ones who know about cricket. We have more than enough knowledgeable people who are willing to stay in Sri Lanka and help our cricket.

What is the issue here? As an expert, he gives opinions on various aspects of the game including batting approaches and techniques. This sounds like a faux issue in search of a controversy. Is there any contractual obligation that prevents him expressing general views on Cricket? If not, where is the beef?1

I have no issue with any selector working in the media. I'm sure they will professional enough not to divulge confidential info.

I do have issue with a player that just retired within the last year becoming a selector/coach. They shouldn't be put in a position where they are making a call on a friends and/or former team mates career.

Mr. Sirisena,
I have no issue with Sangakkara or Jayawardena going around the world and discussing cricket and earning money. They must. They have the knowledge and the communication skills to do so. If I were in their shoes, I would do the same. I wish them all the best!
My point is that SLC should not involve them in SL cricket since,
1) The chances of them staying in Sri Lanka permanently and focusing fully on SL cricket are very low.
2) They will acquire valuable info about our players/plans and might pass them onto other teams in the future.
3) The point dealn82 mentioned in his comment, as shown below.
"I do have issue with a player that just retired within the last year becoming a selector/coach. They shouldn't be put in a position where they are making a call on a friends and/or former team mates career".
I am sure delan82 would not mind me using his comment.

@Anonymous1, thank you for your courteous comments. We do not have any perspective yet on what plans Sanga and Mahela have regarding their futures. It is unlikely that they will travel the world peddling secrets from the Sri Lankan camp. In any case, those "secrets" are in the public domain through videos, personal and team performances. I have yet to hear an identification of the nature of the " secrets" Sanga and Mahela are supposed to reveal. Remember also that Bayliss and Farbrace were coaches of the team. Unlikely that there are " secrets" they do not know.

With particular reference to Sanga's role as a selector, when he was captain of the team he directly or indirectly influenced team selections. What is the essential difference now that he is a temporary selector? He had an impact on player's careers as captain as much as he does in his current role. Help me with understanding the difference. Thanks.

Mr. Sirisena,

I am not commenting on their future plans. My point is that since they seem to be willing and definitely able to contribute, they might be offered short term contracts, which I think they should accept. I would and I feel they would too. That means KS and MJ will not be able to concentrate fully on SL cricket. We need professionals who will focus ONLY on SL cricket. That is my main point. How about you joining SLC?

I have nothing against KS and MJ. They have to do what is good for them. More power to them!

In my 2nd reason, I mentioned "Info"-which will be first-hand, not from videos or otherwise- not "secrets".

The 3rd reason in my comment, which is actually from delan82 comment, might bring "Friends" factor into the selection of the team.

Hope I have explained myself enough.

Wish you and your family a "SUBA ALUTH AURUDDAK" in advance!

@Anonymous1, thanks. I think you are assuming the future direction of their lives in the context of their cricket related activities. For the sake of your argument you can do so, but not in the real context of their lives which only they can decide. I have no doubt that you hold them in high regard which is why I find your assumptions that they can be bought to be puzzling.

You have not really answered the issue of Sanga's selectorial responsibilities now and when he was Captain. I think you are making a distinction without a difference. He could select " friends" now as much as he could when he was Captain.

I respect your views although I do not agree with the thrust of some of them. But as always, there is more than one way of skinning a cat and we can agree to disagree without being disagreeable.

Thank you for your wishes. I extend mine to you and your family for a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.

Hi Mr. Sirisena,

I totally agree with 1st paragraph of your comment except the phrase "I find your assumptions that they can be bought to be puzzling". I never assumed that they can be "bought". This is what I wrote.

"My point is that since they seem to be willing and definitely able to contribute, they "might be offered" short term contracts, which I think they should accept".

I never hinted at "bought" but at "might be offered". It is like a Specialized doctor being offered a contract by a University to teach a semester.

So, as you said let's agree to disagree without being disagreeable.
I enjoy our civilized way of exchanging ideas. Wish our politicians can exchange ideas in the parliament like we do. I was shocked to see Vasudeva Nanayakkara calling Ranil Wickramasingha "Pa..ya".

Watch what you eat during New Year. Not much sugar. Take care!

@Anonymous1, thanks. I am sure we will both follow the future cricketing activities of Sanga and Mahela with interest. My hope is that when their playing days are over they will be involved in the development and enhancement of Sri Lankan Cricket.

Take care. Keep well.
