Sri Lanka to face tough opponents in the next round

Mahela's one man show continues as Sri Lanka is waiting for New Zealand V Zimbabwe game.

Meanwhile, we have to prepare for more challenges ahead of us. If we qualify as 2nd place Group B, we will have to face India/ Australia/ South Africa without a doubt.

If Zimbabwe wins tomorrow's game, we may have out side chance to qualify & become group champions according to run rate. Then we will meet powerful Englishmen or West Indies.

It is very important Sri Lankan selector send Dilhara Fernando for Murali which give more confidence for bowling department. Sanath Jayasuriya has become a good option for Sangakkara to make him open with Mahela as Dilshan continues to fail. May be Dinesh Chandimal can be used as an opener. Still we have Chinthaka Jayasinghe on the bench if needed.

So, correct me if Im wrong. But what I gather from what you are saying , you'd rather see Sri Lanka take the easier route to the final, than the more harder route?

I think regardless of which group we fall into, somehow we will face those teams.

I rather we face them in the group stage. This way, if we win, we know how deserving we are of the title. Yes its nice for them to take the easy route and win. But facing the bigger oppositions at the initial stages really sheds light as to how good our team is.

Regardless, NZ will beat Zimbabwe. It will take a miracle for Zim to beat NZ.

We are going to be stuck with Aussie, India & West Indies in Group E.

For Sri Lanka's Sake, I hope Mahela's form continues. Sri Lanka's opening choices have to be between Sanath Jayasuriya and Dilshan. Theres no other way around it. Dilshan is out of form. I say rest him, let sanath have a go in the next game...

Anyways, based on how we've batted so far, sadly, I highly doubt we'd stand a chance for the semi's..

I think group opponents are pre-planned, so If we are selected we will meet following teams in the super eight.

West Indies - on Friday
Australia - on Sunday
India - on Tuesday

our place in the group stage won't decide the opponents we face in the super eight

read this. it describes the criteria

the position in the super eight is decided pre-tournament... if we go through we will be B1.. it wont matter if we come 1st or 2nd

Hey Gangster Bro,Let me to correct you

1.)Teams are seeded like A1 and A2 and no matter how they finish in the group, they will still qualify as A1 and A2,if there's not any upsets. So here we have already progressed to the next round as we have a superior NRR than New Zealand. So we are the B1 team and will have to face West Indies,Australia & India. If we play those games upto our potential, I don't think it will be an impossible task.

2.)Also I doubt we could send Dilhara for injured Murali. We have to get the approval from ICC techinical commitee and we must replace him with a spinner.BTW at this point it seems they are going to retain him.

No tharindu,we dont need to replace murali with a spinner, any bowler will do fine as Pakistan replaced Umar Gul with spinner Abdul rehman.

Hey whtz up with this negative thinking ??? group champs or not we have to beat any team which we face on the super 8, thats y this is call WORLD CUP !?! I dont know abt others but for me I am watching good cricket played by SRI LANKA. T20 is not all about skills u got to have luck that's what happend to pakistan in last year finals.
quit questioning abt our ability, tough appornents...etc have a look at teams like Australia and India they never even reached semi finals last year. South Africa could be a tough team but name one single global event that they have won ?? If v lose v lose and move on, I am seeing so many negative articles/comments on this site now. If we continue like this sooner rather later we will become like indian fans.

you are wrong i think, if NZ wins today they will be the B1 team, so we have to face INDIA, AUS, AND ENG in super 8 stage.
