Without the Three Ms New Zealand are favourites

Mahela Jayawardene and Lasith Malinga have been dropped from the side for the T20 match against New Zealand tomorrow and Ajantha Mendis is out due to injury. I believe that gives New Zealand an advantage.

Randiv's omission hard to grasp

The selectors have named the final squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 minus one of Sri Lanka's brightest new prospects - Suraj Randiv. They have chosen, instead, to go with Ajantha Mendis and Rangana Herath to partner the great man, Muttiah Muralitharan.

The move is a strange one when you consider how in all of Sri Lanka's recent tours, Randiv has been their spinner of choice. Neither Herath nor Mendis got a chance in Australia recently.

What are Sri Lanka's chances in Australia

Since 1985 Sri Lanka have played 40 ODI matches in Australia against Australia and have only won eight games and lost 32. That sounds more like a record that should belong to Zimbabwe or any associate nation than Sri Lanka. But it is not.

Sri Lanka have been woeful in all their tours to Australia. But can their fans Down Under expect anything different this time round or will it be the same dissapointing old story again?

In order to answer that question we must stop patting ourselves in the back and start facing the facts.

Should Dilshan be retained as skipper?

Have you wondered why Ashantha de Mel's selection panel named a second string team for the triangular series in Zimbabwe? I thought it was a strange move.

Sri Lanka were pathetic but predictable

Let's face it. Sri Lanka were pathetic right throughout the tournament. They showed glimpses of their true potential against weaker opposition, whose low standards of bowling and fielding kept our semi final hopes alive.

The West Indies, New Zealand and Zimbabwe bowled poorly to Jayawardene, fielded poorly and aided our batters immensely to give our bowlers a total to defend against batsmen who have historically struggled against spin. Against India, Mathews, Perera, and Kapugedera stood up to the plate, but victory came off the last ball; not convincing at all.

Has Chamara Kapugedera arrived?

Being a warm-up match yesterday's game against South Africa meant little result wise.

End of the road for Punjab's Sri Lankan sons

Over the last three years Sri Lankan cricket fans backed the team from Mohali due to Sangakkara's and Jayawardene's presence in the side, and we Sri Lankans cheered on Punjab as though the team was all Sri Lankan. Match 54 in the 2010 Indian Premier League today between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab will be the last time players from the Punjabi franchise will play together as a team. Which means that today may be the last time we see Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene playing for Kings XI Punjab.

Tendulkar inspires Malinga more than Sangakkara

"Yes!" replied Malinga. It was a confident, assured response. No mincing of words. The question Mike Haysmen asked the Man of the Match was, "Going to be partying tonight?" Malinga had just bowled a sensational spell where he took four wickets for 22 runs.

Pick your Sri Lankan squad for the ICC Twenty20 Cricket World Cup 2010

The Sri Lankan selectors are said to have narrowed down their list of 31 probables to 20 prior to naming the final 15 man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup to be played in April 2010.

Deccan Chargers drop Vaas for Roach?

Chaminda Vaas has been left out of today's game against the Mumbai Indians despite being this season's third highest wicket taker.

Maharoof and Dilshan dropped, not so Preity for Sanga either

This great game of cricket is a fascinating leveller and a pretty quick one at that too. In 2009 Delhi showed us that even the great Glenn McGrath could be sidelined.
