I thought Malinga would be the vice captain for ODIs, why do they want another experiment with a promising youngster, this is not the time for experiments.

Good move by Sana and co to remove Chandi from VC role.. Chandi needs to sort out his loose batting technique first, specially in subcontinent conditions.

Malinga deserves a go to be captain of t-20s but without Mahela and Sanga I'm not completely convinced. We shall see.

yeh i too am not fully convinced with Thirimanne as VC, if Mathews gets injured Thiri will have to lead a fully fledged ODI outfit in the big scene. SO may be Malinga should've been VC in ODIs too, BUT........

Malinga's remarks/attitude(in tv shows and stuff) after the WC win reminded me of a certain former SL Olympic Medalist, whose attitude am not a big fan of... so may be Sanath considered that too..

It was a matter of time, wasn't it? They made Chandimal the captain way too early and now they have made a fool of him and probably damaged his confidence as well. Only thing Chandimal can do is try being his old self - the fearless, attacking cricketer he was.

I agree, Malinga should've been made the vice-captain of ODIs as well, without burdening another youngster and risking his career, too. Moreover, Thirimanne, who was thought to be not very effective in the shortest format as he took a bit of time to settle, is now the vice-captain of T20s? He has changed his game recently, as we saw in the WC but let's see how it goes.

We keep talking about youngsters but hope everyone hasn't forgotten that Mathews is a youngster himself (only 26!). However, he has matured a lot for his age and can handle responsibilities, more importantly he is reliable and consistent.

Good luck. :) Bash the English! ;)

I believe that the turning point of the WC T-20 was when Malinga brought Herath in the 4th over of the NZ innings, and EMPLOYED a SHORT FWDLEG and A SLIP. I'm sure that, and Herath's bowling, unsettled Macallum and made him jump out of the crease. Rest of the front-line NZ batsmen followed suite crumbling under pressure.
I give full credit to Malinga for playing the "MIND GAME" which we know is very important when attacking a new batsman. T20 may be short, but the "PRESSURE on a new batsman" can get wickets.
I hope Malinga will continue to do so instead of waiting for something to happen. Most of our previous captains were too defensive. I think Malinga is going to be an attacking captain. Good Luck Malinga!
