What Sri Lanka can take away from the India series

Sri lanka has been fortunate or unfortunate  enough  to play india back to back in a short period of time. SL will do well to take the harsh lessons taught  to heart and build towards the future.

Watching these teams play the high intensity that india play with is quite remarkable .Much of it is driven by virat kohli and his desire to win.In the field mistakes are not tolerated, batsmen are required to play the situations ,bowlers are required to run in hard whatever the match situation.Comparatively SL are lethargic in the field, mistakes are tolerated . Any kind of pressure on the batting /bowling  panic sets in.Sri lanka needs to improve their approach and play with a higher level of intensity .SL captains need to be more authoritative and demand better from every player.

Interesting  that ashwin, jadeja, ishant Sharma, pujara are not regulars for the ODI team.Rohit Sharma doesn’t play much test cricket .India have been great at rotating players and getting the best combinations for each format.
When has sri lanka ever categorized players according to their ability .If a young player does well play him in every format wait for him to fail, move onto the next (kusal mendis). It was apparent sadeera samarawickrama didn’t have the defensive technique to open the batting in tests. But selectors didn’t mind feeding him to wolves . While roshen silva languished a long time in the waiting list.
SL needs to look closely at every players skill set and mentality. Change the trend of just picking players  out of hope (Thirimanne lol).

While the focus has been mainly on the batting the bowling has pretty much gone unnoticed .SL Now has a framework of a young batting unit with the likes of Gunathilaka, dickwella,de silva, mendis, samarawickrama and the promising asalanka.(Given that the selectors don’t destroy their careers).Time to focus on finding international quality  bowlers .

If you want to win test matches you need wicket taking bowlers .Rangana herath is on his way out.Dilruwan and Sandakan can’t create enough pressure to pickup wickets .Lakmal tries manfully but without the ability to reverse swing he only has one trick.Lahiru gamage simply is not test quality.SL needs to restructure their test bowling .especially find guys that can pick wickets in any conditions .

In ODIs they have two very good spinners  in vandersay and ahkila.SL needs to find guys that can stop the hemorrhaging of runs in the last 15 overs.Finding the next malinga should be the one of the top objective for the ODIs.

SL were quite lucky to play india ,in a rebuilding phase.Their weaknesses were thoroughly exposed .It’s upto the players to learn and keep improving.

Think the selectors have a hard job on their hands with the batting unit.

With the bowling I think we have to groom fast bowlers like Lahiru Kumara and Dushmantha Chameera. They boke bowl 140km/h plus and if u look at the current ashes pace makes a huge difference. I remember when michael starc just had paced, but over the years he has been groomed in to a wonderful bowler.

Hopefully they will work to better domestic system. We need that badly.

Another is preparing wickets that assist the fast bowlers. This is India and in the first test, spinners didnt even get a look in which is how you develop your fast bowlers and your batters get used to playing quality fast bowlers.

stormy i think the 1st test pitch was made that way cuz it was just SL.They wouldn't have done that against SA.

What impressive about india is their culture of self improvement .No one slacks off.from what i've seen everyone in their team has improved from their starting point to now .Can you say the same about SL?.

On the pitches i don't know ,players need to adapt to conditions.i always feel there is seam movement on sl pitches.Theres always reverse swing .I just feel fast bowlers aren't willing to work hard to develop skills . They just like to complain !.Anyway it seems we neither have spinners or fast bowlers .lol.

There needs to be change in attitudes.
