  • Asela Gunaratne Injured and Medical experts have indicated Gunaratne will be out of action for a minimum of 6-8 weeks, and will be returned to full mobility under a strictly managed rehabilitation regime over the period.
  • Nuwan Pradeep Carrying a Knee injury
  • Dimuth Karunaratne the failed opener and the cause of the Sri Lanka collapse every time

Sri Lanka Cricket only Announced the official squad for the 1st Test, not for the 2nd and 3rd test so they will bring in a replacement for the injured Asela Gunaratne and failed Dimuth Karunaratne. Also, bring in another wicket taking bowler instead of Dilruwan Perera who was useless in the 1st test against India.

Most Likely the Selector will do is-

  • Bring in Charith Asalanka who has been among the Top Wicket Takers and Top Run Scores in recent Tournaments and is just as effective as Asela Gunaratne plus a better Fielder.
  • Bring in Sadeera Samarawickrama to replace Dimuth Karunaratne
  • Bring in Lakshan Sandakan to replace Dilruwan Perera
  • Bring in Dasun Shanka to Replace Suranga Lakmal or Lahiru Kumara to have another All-Rounder Option
  • Bring in another left arm fast bowler or use Vishwa Fernando in the XI to have some variation in the bowling attack but I prefer Vimukthi Perera since he is more faster than Vishwa and more economical wicket taking bowler.

Most Likely XI against India for the 2nd Test-
1.  Upul Tharanga(Left-hand Batsman)
2.  Danushka Gunathilaka(All-Rounder)(Left-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
3.  Kusal Mendis(Right-hand Batsman)
4.  Dinesh Chandimal(Right-hand Batsman)(Captain)
5.  Angelo Mathews (Right-hand Batsman)
6.  Dhananjaya de Silva(All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
7.  Niroshan Dickwella(Left-hand Batsman)(Wicket Keeper)
8.  Rangana Herath(Slow left-arm orthodox)
9.  Lakshan Sandakan (Slow left-arm chinaman)
10. Nuwan Pradeep(Right-Arm Fast-Medium)
11. Vishwa Fernando (Left-Arm Medium)

My XI against India for the 2nd Test-
1.  Upul Tharanga(Left-hand Batsman)
2.  Danushka Gunathilaka(All-Rounder)(Left-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
3.  Kusal Mendis(Right-hand Batsman)
4.  Dinesh Chandimal(Right-hand Batsman)(Captain)(Wicket-Keeper)
5.  Angelo Mathews (Right-hand Batsman)
6.  Charith Asalanka (All-Rounder)(Left-hand Batsman)(Right-arm off-break)
7.  Dasun Shanaka (All-Rounder)(Right-hand Batsman)(Right-Arm Fast-Medium)
8.  Rangana Herath(Slow left-arm orthodox)
9.  Lakshan Sandakan (Slow left-arm chinaman)
10. Nuwan Pradeep(Right-Arm Fast-Medium)
11. Vimukthi Perera (Left-Arm Fast-Medium)

Balanced Team-
7 Different Types of Bowling Options and 7 Batsman + Most of them are decent fielders

If Dinesh Chandimal is not available Sadeera Samarawickrama will replace him at the top of the Order since Danushka Gunathilaka did bat at no.3 in the 1st Test against India.
