My take on Chandika Hathurusinghe as a cricket fan

Chandika Hathurusinghe was there in “ Right place at the Right time” Some of them have credited for Bangladesh’s recent years success to Chandika but he was coaching a team where they were playing together for few years as a team, most of the senior Bangladeshi players were playing for 7-8 years as a team and vastly experienced . Chandrika's so-called “ success “ ( I called it he was there in right place at the right time ) landed a lucrative contract with Sri Lanka Cricket and it's well documented that he was the highest paid National Coach ever in Sri Lanka’s cricket history (300,000 USD per annum)

Is there anything special about him compare to Graham Ford or Trevor Bayliss? I am highly doubtful , Almost a year has passed but still Sri Lanka not able to beat Bangladesh , we fans expect as he was being the former National Coach of Bangladesh at least able to have a good plan and execute well , as everyone expected bit of Magic from him I so doubtful that we may even early exit from the current Asia Cup, Chandika’s compensation and benefits from the SLC is little more than 4 million Sri Lankan Rupees per month. I am not sure if he is doing the justice at least for the compensation and benefits that he is in.

Time is running and we have just less than 12 months to the next world cup , the way Sri Lanka playing at the moment I am not sure they will go beyond first round, That may be the end of Chandika’s Magic as well , will he be able to find a another national team to coach ? Perhaps an Associate team I don’t see him coaching a national team after 2019 world cup, to conclude is there anything special about Chandika Hathurusinghe? He was there in right place at the right time, nothing less and nothing more.

Absolutely correct Nalaka, This is what I told before he was hired by SL. BAN shows winning because of the experience of their players and Chandika was fortunate he got the BAN job at the right time. If he got the BAN job 3-4 years earlier no one will talk about him. He will never become the coach international team if that happened again.

But still some of our guys thinking he will do the magic. Only wrong thing in your article is the salary he getting. He is getting a salary of 65 lakhs not 4 million (Excluding other benefits).

Is this worth for SL cricket? Has he done any improvement at all???? We can only see the continuous losses after losses series after series. Is it Nic Pothas done a great job getting 15 laks of salary? Has those additional 50 lakhs paid to Chandika monthly cant we use for other way?

But Chandika giving his PORA talks to media. Like he is the best coach in the world.

I don't think it is a Chandika's fault, but i think we need sanga or gurusingha type players at no 3,4 positions specially team combination need to be corrected. I hope it will change losing habbit of sri lanka players as follows,
1. Upul Tharanga
2. Kusal Perera / Danushka Gunathilaka
3. Dimuth Karunaratne
4. Dinesh Chandimal /Kusal Mendis / Ashan Priyanjan
5. Angelo Mathews
6. Dhananjaya de Silva / Asela Gunarathna
7. Thisara Perera
8. Dasun Shanaka / Jeewan Mendis
9. Akila Dananjaya
10.Suranga Lakmal
11.Lasith Malinga

Yes Nalaka Your mouth must me poured with Gold. this is what most of us said when Chandika took over as the head coach after Useless Gurusingha Sanath paved the way for Graham Ford to make an early exit from the srilankan coaching job with dissatisfaction. now we are experiencing the results of that KAMA caused by G+S+T. still "G" is enjoying maintaining low profile and "S and T" are gone after destroying the srilankan cricket. coming back to Head Coach, what this guy is doing is a Joke. Seilanka is struggling without having right batsman at the right place and fielding is very weak. fielding like school boys, no one is their to rise to the occasion, most of the cricketers have become a laughing stock specially people called seniors. discipline is nil, so how come a team becomes a successful match winning bunch when team performance is disarray. now it is enough and high time for co called expert like Magician Hathu to make a do or die decisions to make the team into a winning bunch or leave the job along with Gurusingha leaving srilankan authorities to find the Right coach for job.

I don't buy this blaming Hathu angle. The coach cannot score runs or take wickets and yes, agreed that when Hathu took over Bangladesh they had a core of experienced players and also had a core of youngsters like the Fizz and Sekar coming through. At the same time SL cannot find a spinner (well finally we have Akila) or a technically competent young batter - so how is this Hathu's fault. Our most experience players in Mathews has missed more cricket than played and when he plays, is awfully poor as he is never on the field - so how is this Hathu's fault.

The coach cannot do much if there is no talent. The issue is we have such a poor state of first class cricket you can bring what ever coach you want, but it will not create talent. Also, how many coaches have we had in the last say 5 years? I have lost count. Lets just give him a chance and accept that we have bigger issues and it's unfair to blame Hathu.

Also, we did Bangladesh in all 3 formats in Bangladesh the last time round. We were also the first Asian team to win Barbados and should have beaten the Windies in that series. We just thumped SA, the #2 test team at home. So we just don't ignore these credible performances under Hathu do we?

I always believed test cricket is a true representation of a nation's cricketing health. I think the next 4 test tours (home to Eng, away to NZ, away to Oz, and away to SA) will tell us the value of Hathu. If we can win 2 or 3, (or even win 1 and draw 2 series), then I would say he's done a decent job and worth the big bucks he's getting. Lose all 4 and he should be sacked without any questions (that's 9 tests we are talking about).

The truth is that there has been so much chopping and changing with the oneday team I don't think anyone knows who should be in the 11. Akila is the only player at this stage who I can say should DEFINITELY without a doubt be there for every game. Maybe Matthews too. The rest all have question marks over them. Back in the day we could easily say Dili, Sanga, Mahel, Matthews, Kula, and Malinga without a doubt had to be in the 11. Today it's hard to really think of a winning 11.

To Nalaka and CricketStatsguru

I see especially Cricketstatsguru saying this multiple times. Guys look, I’m a SL fan, die hard fan. Grown up in the 90’s watching sanths and aravinda and sangas. I’m not biased toward any player or official, I just want SL to do well, regardless of whos playing and whos coaching.

Guys do you really think changing a coach to a different coach will make our problems dissappear? Like honestly ask yourself that.

Instead lets at least be proud that now we have a Sri Lankan coaching at the highest level. Lets give him 2 - 3 years before we say anything, thats fair right? Under him we have certainly moved up a step, not much but its a step forward. Lets be proud and be tough in this horrible time. Its easy to blame on the captain, coach, or player. Lets be a more smarter fan and not be quick to point fingers. Lets support them. Thats the true fan.

Blame Nishanthas, blame Sumathipalas, blame sports minister. Becuase they are the ones who put us in this mess. Our first class cricket is shit, this is the biggest problem we have today. Not the coach.

Stormy do not bark like if u do not have any idea. SL beat SA in test series but SL beat AUS who were the number one in test ranking in 2016 AUG when FORD was the coach also. So what is the difference. Non Asian teams cannot play spin that is simple. So how can we credit SA victory to Hathuru???

Is that beating that WI team is like a magic for u? IND and PAK havent played many test matches in recent past IN babrbados. If IND play a match Im sure they will also gonna beat this WI team. How u can say SL would win the series in WI also. WI beat SL very easily in 1st test match. 3rd test match was very close and SL could have easily lose the match also. 2nd test match also very close. Do not make hilarious comments every time.

So what is the point of having a coach and giving such large amounts??? Uda balan nikam innada???? Uda balan nikam idala 65 laks hambakaranna puluwan nam niyamai ne.

Coach should bring plans to have good talents, He should bring ideas to improve the infrastrcture of first class system if it does not right. Natham uda bala bala Budiyaganna nemei 65 laks denne. Mewa rate salli

Stormy if coach do not have any blame and do not want to do anything about finding new talents improving first class structure what are the things he have to do???? Then everyone will look for a coaching career. Without doing anything one can earn 65 lakhs excluding other benefits.

The problem is not the test matches. Test matches SL were reasonably playing well even before Hathu take over. It is ODI and T20 cricket that SL struggling which we cant see any improvement after Hathu taking over additionally paying such large amount for him.

Take a look at Pakistan team how Micky Artur change their ODI and T20 in one year. They were number 9 ODI rank 2 years ago and facing a problem to qualify the WC automatically. But now? Can Hatu do such a job. I doubt it

Coach Hathurusinghe & skipper Mathews to be blamed for disrupting the most productive opening pair again after another back to back successful opening stands of 50+ in PP that paved the way for 300+ winning totals in last 2 odis in previous series vs SA..

Apparently the logic behind benching Dickwella (3rd highest scorer in previous series) seems, just to accommodate an already sealed failure (tried in 50+ odis) like Kusal Mendis, who had really done nothing for more than 18 months (25 innings - 20 Av) now to secure a permanent spot like this in odi XI- he is certainly not cut out for limited over cricket, similar to Chandimal (after playing 140 odis over 8 yrs, yet to win a single MoM award). They both should be restricted to their specialty mode in Test cricket, rather than trying further to mold Gold Sculptures from pure Clay.

This is highly unnecessary at a time like this trying to finalize the best XI for WC. If not Coach & skipper, whom to be blamed for this kind of absurdity?

If a coach can improve or change first class structure in SL then hathu will be the first coach to change it. Becuase hes sri lankan and he understand how to change it. Even mahela tried his best to change it but he couldnt. Dont you get that its up to the administrators to change first class structure? Coach cant change it even if he tried.

Now you say give other people a chance who perform in domestic, dont you remember the time when santh was there, we kept giving new players chances, how did that go? We understood we need to select 15 players and give them sometime. Dont you remember what happend?????
