Its only a warm up but worrying signs.

Losing to a minnow is not a big deal unless you are struggling to beat the others! For example SL has previously lost to Kenya and others but it wasn't a big deal as it was an isolated loss. The issue now is very different as it raises the question can we actually beat the minnows consistently given the struggles of late.

The other more real issue is SL's blue print where the best case scenario is sub-300 score. Put it another way - even if our plan works 100% we will end up with may be 300 which is no longer a winning total and certainly not with our attack. There could be no better example of this than Scotland running past 287 without breaking a sweat. The way forward is aggression in the top order (like the rest of the world) and at little as possible "old fashioned" one day players in the top 6. This means Chandi and Tharanga cannot occupy two spots in the top 4. We could please one to hold the innings but certainly not both but that is our plan A!

Our bowling is not strong so no matter what we do defending 300 will be a challenge so plan A has to be around setting 300++ scores and you are only ever going to achieve that with aggressive batters - much like England have changed their game plan in recent times. They no longer play Bell and Trott like players, instead they play guys like Roy and Hales and Bairstow and Buttler. We may not have players of this caliber but our intention should be to head that way. For example, an top 3 of Kusal Perera, Dickwella and Dilshan Munaweera would show that intention. It may no come off now but it's a plan in the right direction.
