Another squandered opportunity.

Disappointing but expected with one brilliant game and other opportunities slipped through. This was a 275 wicket so we were way below par despite getting a decent start. Pakistan tried very hard to lose this and we did really well UNTIL - the time arrived to take control of the game with Pakistan 7 down and 100 short. Credit to Pakistan but seriously our fielding fell apart and we dropped the key man twice in two overs - don't expect to make semi finals with 236 and dropping the key man twice!

I thought our bowling was excellent right through the tournament and the batting clicked once and looked invincible but otherwise the same old issues. Injuries didn't help and we need to work this out. Kusal and Chamara both out for 2 games and Tharanga misses a game due to captaincy - just plain unlucky or plain poor.

We also cannot continue to play Chandi and De Silva/Tharanga in the top 4 in limited overs cricket. The best example of this when we had to chase 300 Chandi was not required - so why is he in the side then? I am not a Chandi hater just saying there is no room for a traditional accumulator in the modern one day game.

We have something to work with now in Dickwella, Gunathileke, Mendis and Kusal Perera showing glimpses of what the future could hold. We should test other options in place of Tharanga, Chandi and Kapu in the next tour.
