My XI

1. T.M Dilshan
2. Dimuth Karunarathne
3. Lahiru Thirimanne
4. Kumar Sangakkara
5. Dinesh Chandimal(Wk)
6. Angelo Mathews*
7. Kithruwan Withanage
8. Rangana Herath
9. Tharindu Kaushal
10.Chanaka Welagedara
11.Shaminda Eranga

I hope this will be the most probable team for the first test (may be Kula come in for Eranga). Batting order might be slightly changed as well. But I prefer Thirimanne No3 and Sanga goes to No4. Chandimal No5 and Mathews No6.

While Kithruwan scored in the 3 day, I think selectors have been waiting to try out Mendis at the test level and this is as good an opportunity. I personally think we have better young "batsman" for tests than Mendis. But Mendis does make a case for at least a chance to prove that he is worthy of being the allrounder on spinning test tracks. If not Jeewan, I think even KJP deserves a chance ahead of Kithruwan.

Tharindu should be preffered ahead of Ajantha.

I have a feeling that selectors would want to give at least one younger fast bowler a chance. So Eranga will get the nod over Kulesekara who probably can use a rest and isnt the first choice test bowler anyways. I'd prefer Lakmal over Welegedera. However, I think given that Welegedera is the test specialist fast bowler, he'd play.

Vithanage?

I wonder whether including him in the squad was fair to other prospective players who had been in the fringes for a longer period of time. though i also see the point in including guys who are on good form so that they are more likely to suceed.

Arnold is good :)

Arnold just came on air replacing Ranjit Fdo and what a difference. Perhaps R Fdo is losing some of his skills :(

Theekshana - Cant agree with you more. I dont think it is wise to pick a guy from pretty much no where, ahead of those who have been knocking on the door for a while like Angelo Perera or even someone like KJ Perera who's proven against quality attacks that he belongs.

Here is the issue for me. Since he was only picked based on a couple of very recent performances, what is he fails here and in the next test? They have to drop him then...Now what a waste that would be? On the other hand, if you pick someone because they'd been doing so well for a long time, you'd want to persist with them...

Anyways, what do we know..
