Time!

Ok folks lets stop talking about Kusal and Upul and Maha and selectors and Sanath ETC as I presume we are now stuck with the 14 selected. The burning question is the make up of the team and all indications are that in these conditions we need to have specialist (as opposed to bits and pieces players). This will not be possible as it would mean Chandi at #6 and Dimuth #7. We could still potentially do this and get 10 overs from Dilshan and Mathews but obviously you cant bat Dimuth at 7 and I'm not sure about Mathews fitness. Under no circumstances can we risk an injury to Anji (Dimuth would then have to play as a batter).

Next option is can we bat Thisera at #7 and I presume most will agree no! Jeewan? Well know! The point is the mix wasnt right to start with and the selected guys havent performed to make this any easier.

My call is Chandi at #6 (I would open with Chandi but we have decided to open with a plodder in Thiri) and Thisera at #7, followed by Kula, Sachithra, Herath and Malinga. If it is a green top, I would swap a seam bowler for Herath.

The above 11 has 4 front line experienced bowlers backed up by Thisera, Anji and Dilshan so plenty of overs to play around with. The batting, well not much to say other than looking for Anji to find form and become the finisher after the big 3. The choices for #7 are Jeewan, Dimuth and Thisera and I would opt for Thisera - he is due to win us a game and WC knockout will just do fine (even if its only one in 10). The other two are certainly not going to win us a game from #7.

i wonder we should risk

i wonder we should risk malinga only against smaller teams ( ban, afg, scot) . cause if there are no upsets those 3 wins will pretty much guarantee our Q/F spot . so in that way we can add less pressure on malinga before the Q/F .

The Malinga plan.

@SLCricket1 decent plan for Malinga but the only hitch is he could go in to a knockout final with only 3 games under the belt.

if we rest maling against all

if we rest maling against all big teams and lose those matches we will be the 4th in our group and we'll gave to face SA in quarter finals. End of story.

well it's a tough one . but i

well it's a tough one . but i must say we should avoid becoming the third in our group , because bowling is our straight and it will be pretty hard to stop the batsman at the small Adelaide . all the other Venus in the Q/F are happy hunting grounds for us .

Fielding is not the only issue and the grounds of Aussie

I was waiting to meet you SLCricket1 for some time and finally found you. Just want to give another example for you regarding the fielding. You are every time coming and blaming for any fielding blemishes we have done and do not criticize any of the bowling or batting mistakes we have doing when loose the games. There could be one or two mistakes happen in the field but according to you then bowlers also have to be perfectly bowl every deliveries. But they are not doing that and you are not criticizing them. Recently you have highly criticize McCullum drop catch by Dilshan is the reason for lost for SL in the 5th ODI where they have scored 360+ citing make some harsh comments on Dilshan that you do not consider him as an overall a better fielder.

Did you watch New Zealand vs Pakistan 1st ODI match played on 31st January. In that match whether you believe or not Blendon McCullum, Yes you heard that right he drop a sitter off Afridi when he was in 14(8) balls where Afridi has scored 68(29) as I can remember. But the eventual result is NZ had won the game so comfortably with 7 wickets in hand. If SL had played that match and if we lost that you will come and say and blame for Dilshan if he has missed that catch. These things happen in matches where one, two drop catches could happen even to best of fielders. I have given you another example on the 4th match between SA Vs WI where DeVilliers drop a catch on that day and hope you remember that. No one is perfect there could be one or two mistakes in the field. But for poor players like Dimuth, Jeewan who does not contribute to team for any way we can blame even for small mistake in the field.

Apart from that I do not agree with what you said in the above comment. We will be playing our QF in SYDNEY GROUNDS which is the most favorable ground to us in Australia no matter which position we finished our group stages or what oppositions we take in QF. Grounds are already fixed. I also don’t agree with statement of Adelaide is not a favored ground to us. I think that ground suits us after the Sydney ground for us where Adelaide also help spin bowlers as well as small size of the ground will help our batters more who are not boundary strikers. Obviously Perth ground is the most disadvantage ground to us in Aussie followed by Brisbane and Melbourne respectively

@Surod it's pretty annoying

@Surod it's pretty annoying to say these things over and over again . so kindly go and read my comment #170 second part of that forum

SL cricket's biggest problem is fielding at the moment , all the match we had fielded with no silly mistake in recent past 9 out of 10 times we have gone to win it . go and take a look at the past matches we have thrown away ,most of the times you will come up with a very common issues called "poor fielding" . If you do not understand this then no matter how hard i try to explain it , it's going to be wasteful effort.
