Thirimanne the best player

Thirimanne the best player and the reason for SL lost in the last 2 years T20 format according to a pundit called SLCricket1 here.

When someone here called "He has to be drop for something" then this pundit coming and showing his great T20 skills and stats and saying what an argument that is by that person to drop the best T20 player in the SL squad.

Thirimanne brilliant scores during the world T20 6,5,3 and 0

That was as expected but still dissappointing.

The good news is we didnt end at the bottom of the group. The bad news I am afraid is just starting. So for the positives: Mathews and Dilshan got a couple of note worthy scores and Chandi got a few starts. In the bowling: Vandesay showed something and Chameera possibly but not much else. We can have the blame game all over again but for those of us who were realistic this was comming from a long time. Did anyone note the win/loss ratio since the last WC? SL are behind Bangladesh and Zimbabwe! We have dropped from #1 world champions to the bottom and Bangladesh heading our way soon. It will be the same in 50 overs too and tests - well that is a real issue. If some are yet to see it, we have a real problem and the issue is our first class structure is not producing the talent to compete at an international level due to neglect. SLC has been rotten with looting while the game has been neglected - the time be real is now.

He has to undergo a Polygraphy test, which means, he has been deemed to have lied, probably during his hearing/trial for drug abuse.

The verdict!

Its done and as expected SL finshed where most of us predicted. We didnt expect not to see India in the final and we didnt expect to see NZ in the semi final or Aus not in the final. We expected Bangldesh to do better and Pakistan to cause an upset. We didnt expect England to get that far and we epxected SA to make the semi finals. So what do we take from it.

For me its the role of the big hitters. Not neccessarily Braithwaite style, after all Root was classical but stricking high. NZ made the semi finals without McCallum and in his place Kane fiddling around. NZ success was their spinners while Eng success was the big hitting and SL were not armed for either. Its sad to see some of us still calling for Upul and others called and relished the recalling of Thiri - both occupying critcal top order positions where the rest of the world (including End) were throwing around 'hitters' to these positions.

Our most encouraging bowler was probably Vandesay - recalled as replacement. Out first chouce spinner Sachithra didnt play a role for the second WC in a row! Yes we have bigger issues but the key is to learn from watching the rest. The old saying..if you cant beat them, join them.

In the end the sheer power hitting got the Windies accross for the second time in 3 WC's. We will never have that power but we proved in between that power hitting alone isnt a requirement. We just need a plan that works and right now we dont have a plan. The good news is we have a few years to work this out and plenty of arm chair selectors and crickerters to make a plan.
