Virat Kohli slammed 86 in the first ODI against West Indies on Thursday to become the joint-fastest batsmen, with Vivian Richards, to reach the 5000-run mark. Both Kohli and Richards played 114 innings although the West Indies' legend featured in 126 matches, six more than Kohli.

Kohli - currently ranked the best ODI batsman, needed to score 81 runs in the match to match Richards' feat. A fluent shot over deep mid-wicket boundary helped the Delhi batsman complete the milestone - one appreciated by spectators at Kochi's Nehru Stadium. The Indian vice-captain - adjudged man-of-the-match - scored 86 runs with nine fours and two sixes before being dismissed by Jason Holder.

Virat is a good talented

Virat is a good talented young cricketer.
As a batsmen he is a great attacking player, as a person I am less complimentary and think he is up-himself and good do well to improve his attitude and be more humble and respectful a la Sachin Tendulkar.

Where Kohli though will need to prove himself as a batsmen is overseas. Most of his big knocks are within the subcontinent

@ delan82 : Agree with you on

@ delan82 : Agree with you on the both points. He is now improving on his attitude because every one projecting him as the next captain.

Also BCCI had done a good job as next year India play only one home series 3 Test+5 ODI+1 T20(Even I cant believe it) All are away matches. So great chance to Kohil to prove overseas.
