Hi all,

I am sorry if this post doesn't belong here.

I have no abilitites in cricket, nor i have played school cricket. But I love to play this sport.

So please tell me, how do I get about this? I mean how do i join a club? Which clubs? I just want to play as a leisure activity, a hobby.

Please  please help me, I have got no one to ask :(

Thank you!

Just checked your profile and

Just checked your profile and it says SL. First thing to do is to walk into a club thats closest to you and inquire about joining their cricket coaching sessions.

I know Colts used to charge something like Rs. 150/month more than 10 years ago and Roy Dias would coach players of all ages there. All major clubs (SSC, NCC, etc) have something similar.

Galle

I think it would be even easier since you are in Galle. There are fewer no. of players over there when compared to Colombo.
But I would suggest you first start playing soft ball cricket with some friends, then you will end up playing cricket the Sri Lankan way.

well i know the Sri Lankan

well i know the Sri Lankan way i think. Lofted shots over mid-wicket all the time lol. Used to play with friends like that in school days.. These days no friends. Introverted guy I am, no friends at all.

Thanks for the reply Sulaimann :)

I have a six months vacation, so thought about following my passion.

All The Best

Well at least you got the guts to follow your dream! I played for a club in NZ couple of year back and there I met two american's who started playing cricket in their 20s and they were quite good. Cross-batted shots most of the time, coming from the baseball background, but other than that they were quite good.

Another way to get into cricket, is simply get together with some guys and play some street stuff. Over here we do it, in a space hilariously small, but still it's cricket and really fun. If you ever visit Wattala area, just PM me, will sort you out.

Go to a sports store and buy

Go to a sports store and buy a leather ball (Kookaburra is a good brand but slightly pricey). Once you get a feel of the ball and see how fast it travels and you know if you can deal with a hard ball coming at you at high speed, you will know if you want to pursue this.

Its not a cheap sport and buying all the equipment without knowing for sure if you want to go through with it is a waste, neh?

Get a soft ball and a bat would help.

Hi everyone, Im still trying to get over yesterday :S
this is my first post here,
Anyways, talking about where to take the first step, I would say first find whats your strengths and weakness, that could be done by taking a tennis ball and try bowling over arm, would seem a bit wobbly if your a rookie but you will get used to it, I did it that way. If you are batting try tossing the ball and try middling the bat... These are the core basics, Next play with some guys wherever you can, and hopefully you can get the hang of it.
I started this way then taped a soft ball in later stages as I found my strength was bowling :D
Good luck, feel free to ask anything.

Hi nasa, thank you for your

Hi nasa, thank you for your kind comment.

I just want to play grade cricket or at-least join coaching sessions. I don't care If i can't even play cricket at all.

I got the money needed and the time. I just want spend some lazy time in a ground. I want to feel that 'thing' you know. Playing in a team. Being at the batting crease. I don't care If i can not be competitive.

I first want to get in to a club or something. Then I will see about my skill and those stuff.

What was worrying me is that i am afraid if they'd laugh at me, a guy wanting to join a club who have not played the sport ever?

For that I am asking some words.

Hope It is understood. Thank you again :)

For all this time i was expecting a answer like, the procedures to get involved in a club, how you go about it.. etc I know i can go and ask the club, but thought it'd be better i first get to know the stuff..
