Know the 6 Batsmen who have Scored HUNDREDS Before Lunch on 1st Day of a Test Match

Dhawan is the latest entrant to this list.

Have a look!

Rare breed this lot!

I was expecting to see Sewag, may be Richards but that is how crazy it is to score a 100 before lunch that neither feature. It is also why when you come across a player capable, you invest. Both Warner and Dhawan came in at t20 stars who have repaid their selectors.

Now, if my memory serves me right, the closest a SL got was Sanath against SA in Galle - he absolutely went nuts but ended up on 96 not out at the lunch break.

The next big thing is hundred in a session and again I bet you there aren't many and would be surprised if Sewag and Richards are missing.

One has to really bat like

One has to really bat like crazy/be lucky (with conditions + bowling quality)/bat extraordinarily well to score a hundred before lunch that too on a 1st-day wicket.
Its always difficult for two reasons: a) Its a short session & b) you need time to settle before you can play strokes on a fresh 1st-day wicket against a new ball. All this eats up quite a few overs so one has to play really well in the remaining overs to complete a hundred in that 1st session.

Completely agree with your observation regarding Dhawan & Warner. Both have matured into very good Test batsmen; both play with a lot of flare and when doing well set the tempo for rest of the inns/match.

I think you are right about the highest score by a SL before lunch; tried a lot but couldn't find info about others.

As for hundred in a session, you would be surprised to know there are lots of players who have done that.

Before Lunch - 24 times (Lara, twice)
Post Lunch - 26 times (Dhawan, Bradman & Sehwag twice; Aravinda & Dilshan are also there)
Post Tea - 36 times (Bradman thrice; Sehwag & Sanga are also there)
Surprisingly, Viv has never done so.

Seriously no Viv?

Hard to believe the great man would not feature somewhere and surprised to see Sanga in there! Is there a batting list of any value that Bradman does not feature on..

Well, that's cricket my

Well, that's cricket my friend, the game of glorious uncertainties.
Not in my knowledge...wonder how much Bradman would have achieved if ODIs & T20s were played in his era.
