This has nothing to do with Lalit Modi not being there. This is the first IPL in a World Cup year and it was right after the WC!

I was sick of seeing Modi on

I was sick of seeing Modi on TV all the time. Really, it was like he was dying for the attention. He would be at the toss, at the presentation ceremony and in the stands. For a person with authority, it seemed like he asked the TV crew to focus on him regularly.

The IPL was palatable without Modi this year.

IPL brand value

It has been a lot of cricket being showned on TV.May be that is the reason why most of them prefer not to watch IPL
