Ok so we won this one. Why ? Mainly because we picked the correct side ! Why couldn't that be done before ?Therein lies the Million dollar question. If humble arm chair pundits' like us can pick a winning side what of the selectors ? Is this where match fixing starts from ? Knowing the current officials in charge anything is possible !

Mahela's knock - I would like to know the percentage of balls he faced during his two partnerships with Tharanga and Jeevan. You may find a very low percentage and lots of singles. This would mean that he left the hitting to the others while maintaining a very good strike rate ( runs per ball faced). These are old tricks of seasoned professionals so look for them before you get carried away. I am not saying this is necessarily a bad thing he was probably needed to stick around there and control things but BE AWARE. Also remember he got out just after he did what was required ie score exactly fifty.

Old no ball is still the weak link in the bowling. Although he has improved a lot he still tends to fall apart under pressure. Did you see how Akmal took him apart ? I feel that Lakmal is a better bet.

Why can't he turn the ball ? I am not really impressed with him but he does have something, let's hope gets a good coach and develops further.

What a difference he made ! That flurry of hitting and the BOWLING. This is a guy who wasn't in the first choice squad. Something is wrong.

Did you notice that donkey speaking of all the weaknesses and strengths of the players on air ? He should be sued by the cricket board for letting out valuable trade secrets for the sake of earning money for himself.

What next

I think Sanga should bat lower and Chandimal be given a go at no3. Sanga at 4, Mahela at 5 and Mathews at 6 would balance the batting as far as I was concerned. Specially if Dilshan gets out first we need to keep attacking the bowling at the start to allow Tharanga to do his thing.

@ Ravana - Nice and valuable

@ Ravana - Nice and valuable points mate...I felt the same thing about Dilhara and Thisara, when I was watching it y'day...I don't have any clue regarding the logic behind dropping Thisara from the original squad. First impression I got when heard about the squad was, either selectors don't watch matches or they have forgotten this guy who hit 22 runs from 9 balls in the world cup final 2011 !

We won!!!!

@Ravana give credit where its due, except for our batting from 20-30 over and a couple of dropped catches, everything else was near perfect.
Your point on Mahela is quite harsh. He batted brilliantly while carrying an injury and thats the reason he couldnt carry on.Anyway Tharanga and Jeevan arent tail enders to be shielded from strike.

Dilhara should be given a run through this series, he has pace and always looks like taking a wicket. He should have had Akmal early on if Mathews had held that catch.SL should also preserve Welegedara,Lakmal and Prasad for Tests.Thisara should be given a long run in ODIs from now and when Kula comes back the ODI pace unit would look good

You dont have to always spin the ball to bowl well.Hafeez and Afridi(who troubled the SL batsmen the most yesterday) are similar to Prasanna.Except for the over to Afridi, which you really cant blame him for, he bowled well.

Sanath is a donkey for getting into the commentators box in the first place, no matter what he speaks next but the strengths and weaknesses of players are well known to oppositions through all the technology available these days. There isnt anything to be exposed by speaking about these on commentary.

Glad to see Tissere make an impact. This guy has been hot and cold and must perform to ensure he doesnt get hung out. He did the needful in this game and has done before but his consistency has let him down as has his shot selection. If he gets these two areas sorted he could be a key man in the team.

You can use video analysis till you are blue in the face but when a former team mate confirms it on air.....what more analysis ? Analysis has an element of speculation this is confirmation from the horses ( or is it donkeys) mouth !

At least we wrote English in the '80's !

not superman

when you bat at that position your shot selection is often limited to taking a swing at everything isn't it ?

As for consistency with the bat due to the aforesaid his options are limited. He certainly should bowl with more consistency as I believe he can go up to the 140kmph, if he does this better he can surely play as a bowler ?
