Captaining the side and being the pivot of team's batting is no ordinary task in Test cricket.

Know the 10 players who have handled both the responsibilities exceptionally well.

Enjoy!

This one was tricky and

This one was tricky and didn't think it would be Smith. Wonder who the worst captains with the bat were - batsman of course. Kim Hughes comes to mind as does Amla but I feel this is because they retired mid series. Could be Botham but would he qualify as a batsman?

Ya, its hard to think of

Ya, its hard to think of Smith in the first go as most people don't realize he took captaincy at a very young age and held it for a very long time.

Its difficult to tell which pure batsmen performed poorly with the bat during captaincy, most probably it should be all-rounders/guys with a decent batting ability. Botham tops this list...averaged only 13.14 in the 12 Tests he captained Eng. He is followed by guys like Darren Sammy, Denesh Ramdin, Mike Brearley, etc.

As for Hughes & Amla, both have a decent batting record as captains...though, Botham is an all-rounder we can consider him as a pure batsman because he could make into any team purely on the basis of his batting ability.
