I would like to know your suggestions for who should play in the asia cup and wt20 for srilanka.

The team has been experimenting with players over the last year but its time to finalise some players in the team.

My preffered xi are the following in batting order: 1) Tillakaratne Dilshan 2) Dasun Shanaka 3) Milinda Siriwardana 4) Dinesh Chandimal 5) Chamara Kapugedera 6) Angelo Mathews 7) Kithuruwan Vithanage 8) Dhammika Prasad 9) Rangana Herath 10) Dushmantha Chameera 11) Lasith Malinga

RESERVES: Lahiru Thirimanne Sachitra Senenayake Thisara Perera Suranga Lakmal

Ive tried to been as realistic as possible in terms of player selection but some of the positions they play might be unlikely e.g. siriwardana. Please feel free to comment back with your ideas as i would like to hear them.

I agree that maharoof is a

I agree that maharoof is a better option compared to thisara, but when was his last t20? Like 2008? I dont think the selectors can make such a bold decision to immediately put him in the team so suddenly. Excluding maharoof, i think the seam attack is slightly on te weak side. Sure, malinga and chameera are wicket takers but we have seen both bowlers go for a lot of runs in the recent past, especially malinga who has deteriorated over the last few years. I feel we need another seam attack such as prasad or pradeep, eranga etc. Thats why i put prasad in the team. I also have thisara as a reserve. His batting is extremely poor but he has been getting wickets for sri lanka, and his economy is improving. There is also jeevan mendis who might be in the probable 15 man squad as i have seen on some websites.

I think "Kithuruwan

I think "Kithuruwan Vithanage" is a liability and he has not performed well in the recent past.

Shehan Jayasooriya or Dhananjaya DeSilva would be a better option

Given the latest form of "Dilhara Fernando" , I would include him ahead of "Dhamika Prasad" and "Eranga".

As for the reserve;

Vandersay
Sachira Sennanayaka
Thisara Perera
Dilruwan Perera (as we need someone for cover of herath)

Who is fit?

I like Suren1998's team but are Eranga and Prasad fit. Also not sure about 3 seamers, i would have thought 2 spinners is a must. The other issue is Tissera - I reckon if he is in the squad he should play. Finally I would swap Siri and Kithruwan as Siri is doing well in the middle order.

Is Herath fit?

Playing XI in my opinion.
Gunathilake
Dilshan
Kapugedara
Chandimal
Mathews
Shanaka
Siriwardhana
Kulasekara
Herath
Malinga
Chameera

Rest of the team
Vandersay
Eranga/Rajitha
Gunaratne
Dickwella or Dhananjaya

At the moment I don't think Dilshan going to be dropped. Gunathilaka was in horrific form but Dickwella didn't capitalized on the given chance so Gunathilaka will retain his place. Is Herath Fit? would you play with half fit player? If Herath isn't fit I think it should go to Vandersay. Senanayaka and Sekku not going to threaten much. I don't think they would go for new comers for the world cup. Is Malinga fit? Seems he hasn't start bowling yet. Next question is Kulasekara? will he survive the slogs on flat decks? I don't like Dilshan, Thissara, Sekku in the team but I assume the team going to looks like this and doesn't expect surprises.

Fast bowlers are important

When considering about the bowling attack, Shaminda Eranga must be in the squad. He came back after a long time and became the leading wicket taker of the SLC Super T20 tournament. He got 12 wickets and other bowlers were no where near his record.

Second leading wicket taker was Dushmantha Chameera who has got 7 wickets.

On the other hand a left arm pacers also will be useful. In that sense Binura Fernando is also can be considered since he is the 3rd leading wicket taker of the tournament.

Bowling attack

As much as i would like a stronger spin attavm, i feel that the fast bowling department should come first. Assuming everyone is fit i think Herath, siriwardana and dilshan provide a reasomably well spin attack. Our two other options are senenayake and vandersay. Senenayake takes one or two wickets a game but they are majnly coming from catches as he has lost his turn with his remodelled action. If u look at ashwin, he actually troubles the batsmen whereas senenayake doesnt anymore. I think vandersay looks promising but from his last t20 games hes looked inconsitent with his lines and lengths despite generating a good amount of turn. If vandersay were to be in the squad im sure they would have tried him in the india t20 series, but they didnt so he may not be in the xi but maybe as a reserve.
As far as im concerned, all players should be fit such as eranga and prasad. Malinga and mathews should be ok by the asia cup. I think the 8th spot can definitely have Eranga or Prasad in it. I just chose Prasad because he tends to get wickets early in his test career and i could really see him doing the same for t20 with the new ball alongside malinga.

Thirimanne in my playing XI

Thirimanne is in my playing XI any day . Good squad selection by Suren1998 .. except vithanage & prasad's inclusion . vithanage is out of form in T20 cricket and prasad had never shined in T20 cricket . we have enough good fast bowlers for that fast bowling slot , if kula is fit i will go with him , if not i will go with dilhara

4 extra slots . where we are have struggling is in batting so i will give 2 of them to batters , so yeah maybe gunathilka and munaweera both can make it into the final squad then no need to test any international level inexperienced openers and we have a back up as well.

my xi

Playing XI:
Gunathilaka
Dilshan
Chandimal (wk)
Kapugedera
Mathews
Siriwardena
Shanaka
Randiv
Herath
Malinga (C)
Chameera

Reserves
Dhananjaya de Silva
Niroshan Dickwella
Thisara Perera
Senanayake

If Gunathilaka/ Dilshan doesn't fire, id replace either with Dhananjaya

If Chandimal doesn't fire, id give Dickwella a go

I went with Randiv over Senanayake because Randiv gets more spin and bounce and did well in the recent SLT20 comp.
