Don't bring the oldies once again

Sanath and Aravinda please do not bring oldies once again to the team. Tharanga Paranavaithana may be in good form but that is in domestic cricket. He is now 34 years old.

It is time to build a team with a young players. See what happen last year by bringing in Jehan Mubarak at the age of 35-36.

It's time to give youngsters opportunity in England conditions so they can prepare for the ICC champions trophy in 2017 and ICC world cup 2019 which is in England. Paranavithana I'm sure will not be in neither of those squads.

Bring players like Dhananjaya De Silva, Kithuruwan Vithanage and Charith Asalanka.

Grow SL future with the youngsters

Test squad may look like this

Dimuth Karunarathna
Tharanga Paranavithana - Has some experience as well as current form
Kusal Mendis - He showed some positive signs in New Zealand so better to give him extended run
Dinesh Chandimal
Angelow Mathews
Milinda Siriwardhana
Dasun Shanaka - Mathews absence require medium pacer with alround ability in these conditions.
Rangana Herath
Dushmantha Chameera
Dhammika Prasad
Shaminda Eranga

Rest of the squad
Lahiru Thirimanna
Jeffery Vandersay
Nuwan Pradeep
Niroshan Dickwella (backup wicket keeper)

SNR (not verified)
Could give young Kusal Mendis

Could give young Kusal Mendis another go if Dimuth or Kaushal Silva fails in the first couple of Tests. If Shaminda Eranga is fit, he should get the place instead of Suranga Lakmal, as Shaminda was influential in our previous Test Series win against England in 2014. Also play Kithuruwan Vithanage instead of Lahiru Thirimanne, as we should play to our strengths of having aggressive batsmen, because face it that we don't have any decent Test Batsmens other than Angie.

My Squad

Say if Kusal is back he has to be in the squad. But am not considering him in this selection. Time to move forward, Not backwards, So SL has to take risk by playing new players Instead of repeating the older ones
1. Dimuth
2. Kusal Mendis
3. Roshen Silva
4. Chandimal
5. Mathews
6. Milinda
7. Minod Banuka/Dickwela
8. Herath
9. Chameera
10. Eranga
11. Prasad

I will have Thirimanne as a reserve player, I believe he has to gain some confidence and needs to put some dedication
12. Thirimanne
13. Pradeep
14. Jayasundara
15. Vandersay

It is very risky to test all

It is very risky to test all newcomers in the team with this trick series. Therefore I feel we can test them by positioning them between senior players to boost their confidence. I kept Paranavitana for 1 down by focusing on consolidation purpose in a situation when we loose quick wickets up the order.

My xi
1.Dimuth
2.Kusal Mendis
3.Paranavithana
4.Chandimal
5.Udara Jayasundera
6.Mathews
7.Milinda
8.Chameera
9.Eranga
10.Prasad
11.Vandersay

12.Pradeep
13.Herath
14.Kithruwan
15.Dasun Shanaka

My stand by
1.Roshane Silva
2.Niroshan Dikwella
3.Dilruwan Perera
4.Suranga Lakmal

English summer

There is something special about English tours, the setting, the crowds, the commentary, the history it all adds to making a special tour. Early English conditions are probably the worse case scenario but this is hand we are dealt with and an excellent test of technique. England are a real force having recently beaten South Africa and last summer they were sensational in the Ashes so this will be a tough tour. Their batting and bowling is sorted with only a couple of spots up for grabs probably the opening #3, wicket keeper and which one of Finn and co accompany the old force of Broad and Jimmy. SL couldnt enter this tour in a worse position than we are currently in and perfect opportunity for some of the next gen guys to stand up and make a name for themselves and make us all breath a bit easy.

Dimuth, Chandi, Anji, Siri, Prasad (is he fit?) Chameera, Herath probably pick themselves but the rest are up for grabs. Do we keep wickets with Chandi or should it be Niroshan? 3 seamers (if not 4 given Siri can bowl) is probably the go for early English summer so I would imagine Lakmal and Eranga are the front runners.

Lets agree one thing, lets not go for the 'experienced tested and failed' players. This got us no where in the recent past and I would pick guys expecting them to struggle but hopefully learn and perform in the next tour to England.
