Frankly, it was a shocking defeat for the Sri Lankans today. What I feel is Sri Lanka was on the track when Chandimal and Shehan was in the middle. Chandimal got out due to an unnecessary shot because Sri Lanka was able to score around 10 runs for that over prior to that shot and the proceedings went worst when Shehan was a victim to Shakib soon after. Sri Lanka was hardly in the chasing and struggled to score freely as they usually do. Sri Lanka's fate of that game was firmly on the cards when they lost 7 wickets around 60 runs and ended on 124/8 in their 20 over quota.

In bowling point of view, unfortunately, Malinga was unable for today's game due to injuries again I suppose. The shocking thing is Malinga's ever reliable partner, Kulasekara has gone for few which was quite uncharacteristic from the points of his standards. But that might be an off day for him.I am a big fan of SLINGA but I'm afraid of how long can he continue his service as Sri Lanka's prime bowler in Shorter formats with these injuries.

According to the video on this link, the injuries hamper his 100% contribution to the team when It is needed very much. As fans, we hope his contribution and experience till Sri Lankas next tier of bowling attack get settled. At the moment, Chameera seems to be adopting well to the current situation who can take wickets by clicking 150 kph.

I feel that it might become handy if we can test Binura Fernando and Kasun Rajitha as Sri Lanka's next new ball bowling pair while Chameera as the 3rd seamer for shorter formats specially in fast and bouncy pitches in future. But this has to be done carefully and intelligently. For that, they are to be prepared with the experience guidance of Malinga and Kulasekara. The authorities need to think on this at the moment because we should have a settled bowling options once the retirement of  Malinga and Kulasekara.

Rangana Herath is retiring soon while we have few spinning options. I feel that we have some good options like Lakshan Rangika, Jeffrey Vandrsay etc.

Batting seems to be bit of a concern since it looks little bit shaky. But I feel the applications of Chandimal  as an opening batsman in t20i up to now,can be useful in 50 over format if he can keep doing it for long, while we are having options like Dhanuska Gunathilaka etc. Let's hope that Kusal's issue may not be that much severe. Once he arrived this batting order will be settled.

Finally, yes, defeat is a defeat but we Sri Lankans are always backing up our team. Frankly, we have to admit that we might have tough times ahead. But let's not give up boys try your best to stay competitive. Or else........never mind..........let's start from zero because that might help to arrange the things carefully, smoothly, nicely.

BE CONFIDENT.............BE STRONG and DIG DEEP.............OUR WISHES ARE ALWAYS WITH YOU................!!!!

We have regressed 30 years

Sri lanka were known as the team that "snatched defeat from the jaws of victory" It was Imran Khan who was the first to say that back in 1983WC when we had Pakistan on the ropes and let them off the hook. This is not the first time that having scored 10 or more runs, Chandimal has done it many times(other batsman too) have got out because they cannot think on their feet.

What has Thisara done in the last 20 T20's and the last 15 ODI's. NOTHING !! HE IS THE BIGGEST LIABILITY. All the opposition know what to do when he comes in to bat and he falls in the trap every time.
I am for pay for performance as that is all that will work with this bunch of loosers.

Guys.. it's apparent that our atrocious first class structure has finally being exposed.. heavy scorers and wicket takers of that , when introduced to the international arena, flop big time since they just can't cope with international cricket's demands.. (dikwella, gunathilaka, tharindu kau, kithruvan ) It would have been good if we had proceeded with mahela's provincial cricket plan but the new admins scrapped it.. all in all it seems we have to be ready to see a string of defeats in the near future, untli the new guys get 30-40 games to adapt themselves to the challenges of as for the asia cup, wct20, eng tour and aus home series ,I'd say let's just brace ourselves for the worst...

@Thilly "Batting seems to bit of a concern" Dude are you high or something?

I think in next match our batsmen's grandmoms association might come out and play better shots and get us some boundaries to save their grand sons from this humiliation. our top 4 can't score run a ball !!!

T20 is boundary hitters game, one can play it with tuk tuk players but you won't win it that often. Its not rocket science, after Sanga came in early 2000s have we introduced a single batsman who can challenge world #1 player ranking? NO!. For two decades we have not produced a single world class batsman. That is the bottom line.(Mathews is not a specialized batsman) We can argue this player, that player would have made a difference, but in truth no, none of current players can make any difference to this situation. World cricket has moved so far, it not these players fault, we have not adapted.

Its not so far off, wait untill Herath and Malinga retires, this lot might even loose to our women's team. There are only two clean stroke makers in our 11, Siriwardane and Kapu, when ever they come to play either other end is stuck as if super glued or run rate is above 10-12. But soon they will be send to guillotine because they're not from the club of Colombo elite schools.

Mathews looks half the player he was, may be he is not fully recovered, it was clear that he was not willing to run for singles or doubles.
