Having a look at the previous

Having a look at the previous lists I should mention that Mathews is too immature to be included in an all time best list. We have to consider different eras separately. In my opinion this is the all time best list.

1. Aravinda De Silva (Best ever batsman produced by Sri Lanka. Pretty much defined the rise of SL cricket with his own rise. A dashing right hander with crisp stroke making. A genuine match winner who ruined his stats coz he used to throw his wicket away at early stages of his career. But not after 1995. After he joined kent he changed his approach completely. This guy won us the only ODI world cup we have! )

2. Kumar Sangakkara ( Sanga has the most prominent staticics out of every Sri Lankan batsmen. His average strike rate and specially the overseas average is unmatchable. Elegant and anchoring batsman. Simply wonderful to watch him bat. Record after record, jsu what couldn't he achieve. One of the greatest test and ODI player. I still rate him 2nd after Aravinda simply coz I beleive Aravinda and co built the platform for whole SL cricket and sanga played on top of it recorded big. )

3. Sanath Jayasuriya (The best ever attacking batsman produced by Sri Lanka. Feared by a large number of bowlers all over the world. When he gets going he is simply unstoppable. The best ever match winner produced by Sri Lanka. We never used to stand up and go away when this guy was batting. Such a power house! Cuts the ball for huge sixes, I havan't seen anyone doing it as easily as him. After he retired we still miss his power. None of the young lads still have it. Not even Kusal. )

4. Marvan Atapattu (Hate him as a coach but this guy had the most prominent consistency record before the rise of Sanga. The most technically correct and pleasing to watch batsman. Great timer of the ball. )

5. Mahela Jayawaradana ( I had very high hope on this guy. That he would be the best ever batsman by surpassing even Aravinda. Gifted perfect timing a craftsman he is, really pleasing to watch him bat. A big match player great spirirted batting however I releuctantly rate him after Marvan simply becuaze I feel that he wasted his very unique gifted talent. Consistency was below par for a batsman of his class. And his away record should have been way better. A legend at home conditions though. Unfortunate, I always wished this guy would be the best. )

6. Thilakarathna Dilshan ( Another reinvented batsman like Jayasuriya. After his promotion to open for SL he never looked back, he was overshadowed by Sanga and Mahela but he is as good as either of them. Attacking batsman and now days one of the most reliable performers at top. His record is quite significant and speaks that he deserves even better. His 160 when SL was chasing 413 in India was one of the best innings I have seen under pressure chasing a 400+ total. A genuine match winner on his day.)

7. Thilan Smaaraweera(Though he is pretty much another home condition legend his test record is quite remarkable. One of the most reliable and consistent test players ever. Gutty and tough minded. I still remember one of his great match winning knocks in an ODI at Dambulla too.)

8. Roy Dias (When Sri Lankans were minnows this is a guy who stood out with his class. To be honest I have only seen him batting in one youtube video but having looked at Sri Lanka's early games score cards how could we ignore his contributions? This guy has 5 centuries 19 50s all together that is remarkable contribution at our early stages. None of the other great batsmen during his era has such a number of centuries.)

9. Roshan Mahanama (Forgotten by many, however this guy is a master. Be it the opening position or middle order, he carried the Sri Lankan team with great spirit. Concentration levels are pretty high and as useful as any other legend. His partnership with Aravinda in the 1996 semis was very decisive. And the world record partnership in tests with Jayasuriya is yet another examples. Classy and a spirited fighter. )

10. Hashan Thilakarathna (This guy is also one of the best test batsmen produced by Sri lanka, led the test team for some time as well. And how could we forget his wonderful contributions as a middle order batsman. If anyone has watched how he fought chasing down 333 against west indies would never ignore him in this list. It was one of the best ever chases up in ODIs up to that time. He almost won the game for SL.

PS: I believe arjuna desreves a place too. But I can not remove any batsman above so I skip arjuna for now as I wanted to highlight Roshan Mahanama who is ignored by many. May be I will replace Hashan with Arjuna but Hashan too deserves a place. So I leave it like this.

1. Aravinda de Silva (the way

1. Aravinda de Silva (the way he dominated 96-200 was incomparable)
2. Mahela Jayawardene ( showed his best from the very beginning. Class personafied)
3. Sangakkara (The most sincere servant SL cricket has ever or will ever see in addition to being a joy to watch )
4. Jayasuriya (The most explosive batsmen of his time. Changed the rules of ODI, Test cricket approach)
5. Dilshan ( Best replacement Jayasuriya could have ever asked for)
6. Mathews ( Amazing and has still many years to reach higher levels)
7. Atapattu (The opener SL was looking for ages)
8. Chandimal (Pure class. One of the best looking attacking batsmen when on song)
9. A Ranatunga ( Master tactician, master of finding gaps for singles. Always controlled tempo of the game when consolidation was the name of the game)
10. Samaraweera ( Most underrrated batsman ever. Could have reached higher levels of excellence/global fame had he not been injured in the terrorist attack in Pakistan)
