 Hi Guys...

Does anyone know how to watch the WC in HD in Canada? As far as I know ATN ripping off everyone with shitty feeds @ $200 for the package.
Wish if DirectTV or Dish Network was in Canada.

Yup. it's a rip off in North

Yup. it's a rip off in North America. In the UK, the BBC are telecasting it Free-to-Air. In Sri Lanka, India and in most parts of the world the World Cup is available with your sports channel which is a part of your monthly cable subscriptions but over here in North America, we continue to get ripped off - even the IPL is PPV.

Just to add to that, ATN

Just to add to that, ATN charges people money/PPV (pay-per-view) and then also runs commercials! That's just not done. Why do you have to put up with commercials when you're paying $200 for the telecast??

Well I don't mind paying for

Well I don't mind paying for HD if they have a package for HD. But yeah Hilal if this is a PPV event then they should not show commercials at all, good point- the whole south asian community here should sue the who runs ATN!

Here's what I've found so far:
TV Broadcasters in HD - FoxSports AUS, SkySports UK, Direct TV,Dish US( $149 or 159 ppv package)
Internet Broadcasters in HD - FoxSports AUS, SkySports UK, Willow TV US($129 US only though)

But there is a way around the internet broadcasters, you can buy a proxy server account for $11/month and watch any of those internet feeds. But I'm worried once I connect it via my HDTV, the quality is the same as ATNs or slightly better than ATNs

You can't get the same HD

You can't get the same HD quality on your TV from your PC (WillowTV). The video is encoded when it comes out through a standard output on your PC unless you have a HDMI or similar output from your PC.

Canada won't be telecasting in HD because ATN doesn't have the infrastructure.

The pricing for North America isn't set by ATN though. It is the main rights holders for NA, either Dish or DirecTV that determines the price.

Sky Sports

As a UK resident I'll be watching the cricket World Cup on Sky Sports. It's not pay per view and so as someone who already subscribes I don't have to pay any extra! Really disappointing news about the ATN rip-off. It would almost be cheaper to fly to the sub-continent!

After the WC comes the IPL,

After the WC comes the IPL, ATN charges another $100 for that too. Can you justify spending that kind of money on watching a sporting event on TV? I have no doubt that Cricket is the most expensive PPV sports event being sold in North America by Cable and Satellite providers.

Back in the day in early 2000, we didn't mind paying PPV charges when cricket was not available even on illegal streams. Now we are being forced to break the laws and watch these illegal streams because we just cant afford it.

The choice for me is simple. Do I pay $200+ dollars for cricket or save and send my son to soccer camp in the summer. Choice is clear. This year I wont purchase WC or IPL from ATN. I wont spend a dime on Willow TV either.

If they made the WC $40, they will make it more affordable to more people and as a result make more money than what they are doing now. Leave it to us Desis in charge of the decision making to be greedy and ruin it!

That's a lot of money!

That's a lot of money! Basically to watch IPL and World Cup it will cost me a week's salary here in Vancouver. ICC has to intervene and stop this racket!
