What do you think of Vishwa Fernando?

Saw Vishwa getting hammered by Moeen Ali in the warm up game. Looks like another medium pacer. Nothing special.

See him bowling:

Eranga and Lakmal are going to be our only hope for a long time but they are always injured. Kulasekara is useless these days. Prasad is not young.

Vishwa fernando doe not have

Vishwa fernando doe not have anything special. Just an average bowler. After Malinga I believe SL should work hard on improving Nuwan Pradeep's consitency. He is only used for tests. But I think he is a better wicket taking bowler in ODIs in absence of Malinga. It's a shame he has not even got an opportunity. Lakmal, and Eranga and Prasad are the definite choices for world cup. Kulasekara? Sorry your time is up mate.

Neil :I agree that I have shouted to much without seeing this lad too much that he should have given the licence in the Indian tour by saying he have the pace and can bowl at 140+. I also mis-directed by some people by having post that this player have pace to trouble batsman. One of my rare mis takes and I committed now not to judge and comment on the players without seeing too much.

But looks like Vishwa Fernando is a very ordinary bowler just don't have any pace at all. May be the same pace as Kulasekara.

Seems like we do not get a fast bowler who can bowl at consistently at 140+ in present. In the early 2000 Dilhara Fernando able to that consistently and after Malinga debuted from 2004 afterwards he has done that till I will say 2008 where he got the injury.

May be DUSMANTHA CAHMEERA have some pace. But having said that I not want too much comment on that player too in future thinking he will be the same as Vishwa situation.

I agree. This was the first time I see him bowling. He may have the pace but his length is ridiculously full. He is just a another skiddy type of bowler like Kule. No wonder he is not taking wickets as much anyone expected. He needs more works to be done even to enter to the A team. I think Chameera is fairly OK, but don't think he is ready either. Best person to try out is Binura as he is tall and even with low pace he certainly generate some bounce that can make batters in trouble. Its too bad that Lakshan didn't get a chance to play and hope he will be in the final squad .I remember Mathews said that he still wanna check with some new guys couple of day a go.

I did watch one over he bowled to Moeen Ali and doesn't look good. Should try out Binura Fernando, he looks similar to Nuwan Zoysa and can generate some bounce. We haven't had a left arm seam bowler for long time and should find one to have some variation to our attack.

Waiting for a star to fall!

I think there is a fair amount of obsession (amongst us fans) that a 140+ kms fast bowler will firstly, appear from no where and secondly, resolve fast bowling issues.

Firstly and most importantly SL is not known to produce 140+km fast bowlers. The wickets dont lend it self to developing fast bowlers and fast bowling has never been a SL strenght. I see reference to Dilhara Fernando - honestly despite bowling fast, I cant recall this chap winning us too many games.

Secondly pace along will solve the problem. The best example of this Kula who at one stage was the number 1 ranked one day bowler, still didnt bowl fast! I would rather concentrate on line, length and swing than pace, which we simply dont have.

Fast bowlers from overseas are showing that one can get swing in SL and now reverse swing. We should concentrate on perfecting these skills rather than look for pace. A swinging delivery at 130 is a lot more harder to deal with than a 140+ delivery.
