Interesting to see whether

Interesting to see whether the new selection committee, headed by Kapila Wijegunawardena, will redress past selection injustices.

First among them, the recall of Upul Tharanga - who should never have been dropped for the NZ series - after excellent home series vs South Africa and Pakistan. Tharanga scored 92 and 45 in his last Test vs Pakistan at SSC (Mahela's finale) and then found himself omitted from the Test squad for the NZ tour in favour of Dimuth Karunaratne.

Tharanga's attacking flair and success last time round vs Pakistan, means he should be first choice to open with either Kaushal Silva or Karunaratne.

Binura Fernando too, deserves his chance this time. In the squad for the SSC Test vs Pakistan, but then the more experienced Chanaka Welagedara was preferred. Binura, a tall left-armer with awkward bounce, is the perfect foil to the welter of SL right-arm quicks challenging for Test squad places.

As well, the selectors cannot ignore the recent form of Kusal Perera and Tharindu Kaushal for SL A. For Kusal, three hundreds and an 80 plus in 4 innings vs Pakistan A, means the problematic number six Test position beckons. While Tharindu's six-for at Pallekele last week, will ensure his Test squad inclusion - along with Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath - who bowled so well in tandem in the home series against SA and Pakistan at Galle and SSC last year.

The switch of the 3rd Test 3-7 July from Premadasa to Pallekele in Kandy makes for a more interesting Test series vs Pakistan (Galle, P Sara, Pallekele).

Any news yet as to where the 3 Tests vs India in August are to be played?

My Test XI

Dimuth Karunarathne
Udara Jayasundara
Kumara Sanagakkara
Dinesh Chandimal
Angelo Mathews
Kiththa Withanage
Kusal Perera
Tharindu Kaushal
Dammika Prasad
Rangana Herath (Lakshan Sandaken or the SSC legee Vendersay after Hera retired)
Nuwan Pradeep

Asela Gunarathne/ROshen Silva/Madawa Warnapura or Dikwella

i know lot of them will laugh at me because Thirimanne isnt in the playing XI, but i dont think his technique is suited to test cricket and good bowlers will found him out (regular catches supplier to 3rd,2nd slips and gully),

If we give chances according

If we give chances according to the players performances players like Roshen Silva, Milinda Siriwardene, Malinda Pushpakumara definitely should be chosen. Because;

-Roshen Silva's first class average is almost 49 only second to Mathews & Chandimal. But players who have lesser average than him in first class cricket already in the national team.

-Malinda Pushpakumara is the highest wicket taker in last PL season.

-Milinda Siriwardene is the highest runs scorer in the last PL season.

Srilnaka's best 10 players

Srilnaka's best 10 players with best first class averages;

1.Anjelo Mathews
2.Dinesh Chandimal
3.Kusal Janith Perera
4.Roshen Silva
5.Koushal Silva
6.Dimuth Karunarathna
7.Kithruwan Vithanage
8.Rumesh Buddhika
9.Udara Jayasundara
10.Chathuranga de Silva
11.Lahiru Thirimanne
12.Anjelo Perera
13.Asela Gunarathna
14.Ashan Priyanjana
15.Shehan Jayasuriya
16.Upul Tharanga
17.Madawa Warnapura

-Gayan Maneeshan, Sachithra Serasinghe, Ashen Silva, Lahiru Milantha also 40+ average players. But some of them don't have enough experience & some of them them have fitness issues due to fat body. Above mentioned players are screen players at the moment.

-we saw selection of Niroshan Dickwella more recently. I think reason to selecting him into the squad is his list A record is better than first class record. He was the best school boy cricketer, Specialist wicket keeper batsmen, has a decent strike rate, has a good technique.

- If you look at about list we should include the first 7/8 players into the test squad. Lahiru Thirimanne is no.11 in this list. But he has already established his position in the team.

Therefore our first 8 batters in the test squad should be (After Sanga's retirement from the test matches)

1.Anjelo Mathews
2.Dinesh Chandimal
3.Lahiru Thirimanne
4.Dimuth Karunarathna
5.Koushal Silva
6.Kusal Janith Perera
7.Kithruwan Vithanage
8.Roshen Silva

To those who think, Kaushal

To those who think, Kaushal Silva or Dimuth Karunaratne needs to be replaced: I seriously doubt u;ve been following SL cricket(world cricket for that matter) at all in last year & half.... :D))))))))

Great point, UpperCut!

Great point, UpperCut! Kaushal Silva and Dimuth Karunatarne have both done reasonably well in Tests. Not sure why people want to make huge changes to the Test setup out of the blue?

My personnel opinion

I have been following world cricket over the last year :D and as I said this is my personnel opinion. I also doubt whether SL selectors will remove these players not because they have done a decent job but because SL is yet to find any suitable good young batsman to become opening pair in test.

May be they have avg stand of 50 in 13 innings but do you think having given Dimuth 29 innings @ AVG of 32 and Kaushal 30 innings @ AVG of 34 is good enough at test level for a opening pair ?? Tell me some pairs who have less than 35 individual avg among the big nations.

Then according to your logic most successful pair is Alistair Cook and Nick Compton. Then why did ECB drop Nick Compton ?? Because he also had some mediocre AVG of 31 after 17 innings. Why did Cricket Australia drop Ed Cowan as David Warner's partner when according to your logic it is the 4th best partnership ? Because Ed Cowan also had a mediocre AVG of 31 at the end of 32 innings.

In modern test playing teams need to have opening batsman at least 40+ AVG

Another example that contradicts above logic

Do you know BAN current openers TAMIM IQBAL and IMRUL KAYES have a opening partnership AVG of 50.13 in 38 innings so far ??

So are they considered to be a good batsman ? TAMIM IQBAL have a AVG of 39 is still above what Dimuth and Kaushal at this stage. But IMRUL KAYES have a very very modest AVG of 26 in test cricket. But BAN have persisted with them because they also did not have any youngsters coming and as a pair they may did a decent job although individually very poor.

But in last 2 series this pair has done very well. Hope Kaushal and Dimuth also do the same if they given the chance. If not it is inevitable they should be drop sooner that later hence carrying a less that 35 avg after completing 30 innings is not acceptable at this level for sure.
