Please, why is this going on, any particular reason? This is not the first time I have been fooled into thinking that there is something new, only to find out some really old report being posted on the 'Home' page.I hope the admins look into this to make this wonderful site appear a little more sensible:):)

Which part of the homepage?

Which part of the homepage? If its under any section that's ordered by popularity (eg: popular today) then it appears in that section because it has been viewed by many people today.

You can't prevent old items from going 'viral' later. For example, we have many photos that have gone under the radar of fans, and months after if someone finds a photo and shares it on Facebook, and thousands view it, it becomes a popular item on the homepage.

It is automatically sorted by the number of views it has received on the day.

BTW, please post such queries

BTW, please post such queries in the chatroom located in your dashboard/control panel once logged-in, not as a post :-)

I understand the confusion,

I understand the confusion, and I realise its not an ideal situation.

One solution is to not sort by popularity or statistics, but by date.

Small Fix

Hilal,

I had the same issue with one of the web sites I had developed. Instaed of calling it popular we renamed it to "buzzing".

And we devised a system to score each post. (the total number of hits within a given period) - (The number of days since the post * multipiler) = rating

so the rating would give more importance to latest hits plus the latest posts.

It will require a bit of rework on the database but wouldn't be that hard.

I know twitter uses a simmilar system. Do a bit of research before you dive in though.

Let me know how it goes. Will be more than happy to help if required.

Regards,
Dasith

Dasith, That's a great tip!

Dasith,

That's a great tip! We have the ability to fine tune it in the manner you have mentioned. But for items like videos and photos, there are so many videos and photos that folks are yet to unearth. If we restrict it to a period, then those old gems may never get discovered. But I understand it may not be homepage material.

Always open to help, mate! Thanks! Will fire you an email later today.

I understand. Another idea I

I understand. Another idea I had about the videos was to have some key fields to each.
Like When,Where,Players,Teams and a Category(Inerview,Highlights). Simmillar to the tags you already have. (Check out how stackoverflow.com works) That would allow you to have your own search facility and letting users contruct their own queries for eg. 'Dilshan' against 'South Afirca' in '2009' at 'Durban'. It will also allow you to organize the old videos so they can be published at any time.

That's just an extention if needed but the rating system will still work if we use the date published. Or have an extra date field which will be used for the calculation. So an admin like yourself can re-release those videos so to speak to the rating system without altering the published date.

All great ideas here. Thank

All great ideas here. Thank you.

When we first launched, we wanted ensure all the content regardless of old or new would be ordered by popularity on the front page and then we also added sections that showed new content. But as we head into our third year, it makes more sense now to re-do the front page entirely and sort items by content type and have sections like 'popular today', etc..

Thanks for the tips.

@Hilal: You should make this forum section include an OFF TOPIC section too - not just have marketplace section.

Now again i read the whole

Now again i read the whole article on selection policy to find it was issued in 2009. Why o Why is this done and we waste time. It can be misconstrued that u have no space and keep ame going over and over again. I am gradually getting fed up.Even the same article appears in 3 diff sections. No where does this happen
