ESPNcricinfo is set to pick an all-time world Test XI as the conclusion to its 15-month-long exercise of selecting all-time XIs for the leading Test countries.

The team, to be announced on October 12, will be selected from the 88 players who made it to the all-time teams for their countries.

The jury consists of a former captain from each of the top eight Test-playing countries - Ian Chappell, Tony Greig, Clive Lloyd, Ajit Wadekar, Intikhab Alam, Ali Bacher, Duleep Mendis and John Wright - and four cricket writers and historians: Gideon Haigh, Peter Roebuck, David Frith and Ramachandra Guha.

In the front rank of contenders are such all-time greats as Don Bradman, Garry Sobers, Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne, all of whom were unanimously voted into their respective country XIs.

Each jury member will pick two XIs - his first-choice world team and a second XI. A weighted points system will be used to determine which players make it to the composite world team.

ESPNcricinfo users will have the opportunity to pick their XIs from the same shortlists as the jury, here. The readers' choice team will be announced at the same time as the jury's XI.

Yes. It's a tough decision to

Yes. It's a tough decision to omit him and I know majority does not accept it. But I find it extremely difficult to map a player from the first era of the game with players of third and fourth era respectively. Mainly because of different conditions and limited number of teams they played with. I know its not their fault but I prefer not creating an index to match them with the present or the players from the yester-era and its just my choice.

Though majority considers Don Bradman as the all time number one batsman, I'm a bit hesitant in doing that. He is an all time great for sure. There are few issues that make me hesitant in considering him as number one.

1.He only played in England & Australia
2.In the begining of his career he played in matches that had no time limit so it would go on for ages.
3.Majority of his centuries were on a single venue (MCG) and I would like to see a player scoring 10 centuries on more than 5 to six venues rather than on the same ground revealing his ability to cope with different conditions.

I know the first two points i mentioned are out of Don's reach and clearly not his fault. I could be wrong But my conscience is against his inclusion.

Well,I guess your reasoning

Well,I guess your reasoning is sound, but the conditions in his day were much much
tougher than today,if he played on current featherbeds,he would have averaged over 200

Yeh SunJ! We can assume that

Yeh SunJ! We can assume that he would have averaged better if he played on current dead flat pitches. But its pretty much a subjective opinion. one could have also assumed that if Lara was allowed to play in an unlimited test match like Bradman was, he would have scored 500+ runs and his average would have risen to the pinnacle.

If bradman had a better distribution of centuries rather than having >=10 centuries on a single location (MCG) and if I had a better impression of the bowlers he faced ,I would have definitely chosen him and then again its another subjective opinion of myself.
