September 18, 2010 (islandcricket.lk): Chaminda Vaas and Sanath Jayasuriya have been included in national training sessions ahead of Sri Lanka's tour to Australia.

"I am happy that they invited me to train with the rest of the lads, but, nothing is finalized yet. The squad proper for the tour may be selected later on,”  Vaas told The Sunday Times in Sri Lanka.

Vaas, who last represented Sri Lanka in 2008, had a memorable outing for Northamptonshire in the 2010 Friends Provident T20. Sent up the order to open batting, Vaas scored 412 runs for the Steelbacks and also scalped 23 wickets.

“Yes, they are training with the national squad at present, but, nothing is finalised. We do need some bowlers also at the nets and as there aren’t any club practices on, it is good that they too can find the time to train here. We will be selecting the pool proper only on or about next Sunday," the Chairman of Selectors, Aravinda de Silva said confirming the duos presence in the training sessions.

Both members of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup winning team, Jayasuriya and Vaas, have expressed their desire to bid farewell to all forms of cricket after the 2011 World Cup.

The true politician showen in Sanath Jay the ballhead man needs to step down and give the young lads a chance,Sanath like your boss(Mahinda Raj) dont try to be the 50 term opening bat for sri lanka step down like a gent don't use your THUG like way's off boss (Mahinda and his gang of thugs)to hold on.

Vaas he verey well need's to be in the squad he should have never been out.

We do hope Aravind will stand by his words
"If I cannot do I will step down"
We all know what exactly he will be dealing with and with
whome he has to fight against

Good news after a long time! Not surprising though. Hope Sana finds his golden touch and shine again. Vaas has been great in County season, he can surely repeat that again..

Nobody would disagree with vaasys inclusion. Well done Aravinda for including Vaasy. He is back in form moving the ball both ways like he used to do and has found his touch as a lower order batsman. In a period when our left arm seamers (welagedara & thushara) not doing well it would be a magnificent inclusion.

But what about SANATH? On what basis did he get selected ?? Pretty sure its not coz of his performances. Apart from a 80 odd knock out of the blue he did nothing in that county season .It's really disgusting. Which youngsters opportunity is he going to take as a grant? Chandimals or Tharangas? Screw you SANATH

Whoever finds sanaths inclusion as an exciting thing must ask from their consciences whether they truly support Sri Lankas Cricket @ its future. Recall the T20 world cup we played this year with a team of 10 players .Sanath was merely a passenger when there were so many youngsters who were kept aside.Do you want that to happen again just to fulfll your longing to see Sanath on the field? I would not to label such people as true lankan supporters but as obsessed Sanath Jayasuriya fans.

Awwwesome Stuff!I'm really excited to see Tremendous Chaminda Vaas back on the field. He truely deserves it after showing what he has got both on sub continent slow wickets during the IPL and on English Seaming & Swinging Wickets.

But What about Sanath Jayasuriya???? Appalling decision by the hierarchy!I feel really sorry for the likes of Chandimal & Tharanga.
I'm pretty sure Santh would play at least the 1st round matches in the world cup so lets face it.

IMO if Jayasuriya is gonna get a chance, Jeewantha Kulathunge deserve dozens of chances irrespective of his age. People who are eagerly waiting to see Sanath back on the field are analogous to people waiting to see Sri Lankas poor performances.

Oh God why can't Sanath just leave?

Please please please leave.

We want to win the World Cup next year.

We can't do it when by default we will always be losing an early wicket.

Sanath, people now only intensely dislike you for hanging on without performing in the past. But if you come back, it will only be through political influence, and all the people are going to hate and curse you for that. Yes, even the folks at Matara.

This is the death knell of SL Cricket. Sanath and vaas shud be in retirement villges. They have made enough mney and depriving youngdtsres of a place. These things can happen only in politically appointed Cricket Boards like pakistan and Srilanka. Shame on SriLanka. Writing is on wall. mark my word I can bet my shirt that we will not win. II dont need to fix matches as we are sure to lose if Sanath and Vaas play. Why not get Arjuna and marvan also to play/ We are the laughing stock of whole world.
