April 10, 2011 (Island Cricket): Sri Lanka's yorker specialist Lasith Malinga carried his brilliant World Cup form into the Mumbai Indians' first game of season-four of the Indian Premier League (IPL), today, at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

Malinga scalped 13 wickets at the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 tournament at an average of 20.76, which included a hat-trick; his second in all World Cups.

The 27-year-old dismantled the Delhi Daredevils’ batting order, taking 5/13 in 3.4 overs, dismissing Virender Sehwag’s side for just 95 all-out.

Of his five scalps, Australian opening batsman David Warner was the first to go, in the second ball of Malinga’s first over - out to a fast in-swinging Yorker, which uprooted his stumps in spectacular fashion. Unmukt Chand followed a delivery later, also clean bowled.

After making early in-roads into the Delhi batting line up, Malinga returned in the 15th over to cause more carnage. He disturbed Venugopal Rao’s stumps with a swinging full toss and shortly after, in the same over, South African Morne Morkel failed keep out a toe-crusher, giving Malinga his fourth wicket – all of them clean bowled in spectacular fashion.

His fifth wicket highlighted the complete package that he is; Ashok Dinda was completely deceived by a slower ball on a good length, scooping the ball straight up in the air, giving Kiwi James Franklin an easy catch at mid-off.

Malinga’s 5/13 is currently the third best bowling figures in IPL history.

He means 'Malinga is a chucker Pakistanis are much better bowlers'! Malinga is not a chucker; exciting cricketer with redoubtable originality.

Why we did not see this in the world cup? Ball is wet?

After the world cup, Malinga is my favorite cricketer. He's an invaluable asset to any side he's playing for.

Honestly, I simply fail to understand, with his hand action, how is it even to ball straight. What completely shocks me is the yorker he delivers with superb accuracy.

He might just be the best bowler in the world today. An absolute beauty to watch.

lasith malingha is the best seamer i have ever witnessed. Mali has best 06 , 07 yers to play international cricket i belive when next world cup comes he is around 31 which is supreme age of a fast bowler. So we can hope positively malinga will bring world cup for the second time to sri lanka in 2015 if he goes well without injuries. Regarding pakistanis they cant play real cricket. If the man who said malinga is a school child before pakistani pacers did watch pakistan vs newzealand match in pallekale ,sri lanka he would never post this foolish remark. We gleefully watched how Ross taylor flayed hapless pakistani weaker bowlers in final overs.
Thanks malinga your the best fast bowler in the current international cricket. come on, go ahead.

IN World Cup We were forced to play like that.. We have been asked to lose in front of India..... That's the reason

Yeah baby! What a bowler. Somehow he doesn't perform this well under Sangakkara! Why is that?

Arthur Perera's picture

I think Sachin tells Malinga to bowl Yorkers from the start and gives him the freedom and field to do it. And Sangakkara is more defensive than that and has curbed Malinga's growth.

I get so angry to see him doing well like this in IPL and flopping like he did in World Cup finals (two times!!)!!!
