June 3, 2011 (Island Cricket): Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Sanath Jayasuriya said that he is eyeing a comeback and hopes to be selected for the upcoming ODI series against England.

"I was disappointed when I was not picked for the World Cup. I have been part of the team and also in the [30-man preliminary World Cup] squad and when I missed it, I felt very disappointed," Jayasuriya told Gulf News in an interview.

"Our chief selector Aravinda De Silva said that he picked the best 15 players for the World Cup, which I don't think was the best. However, I don't want to comment on that much."

The 41-year-old, who has 444 ODIs under his belt, made his debut in 1989 and is now also a member of parliament. He last played an ODI for Sri Lanka in 2009, but appeared to be nowhere close to contemplating retirement.

"I hope to be selected for the England one-day series. I have been playing in the provincial series and have played well and got most runs in the domestic season," Jayasuriya said.

"If I get a chance I will give my best again for my country or I will continue with my preparations for the coming Sri Lankan Premier League (SPL) in July, which is going to be a big and interesting tournament."

The ODI series between England and Sri Lanka gets underway with the first ODI at the Kennington Oval in London on June 28.

I highly doubt jayasuriya only wants to play for money. He is a rich bloke...

I am pretty sure he enjoys cricket alot and loves to play for SL.
However the thing is Mr Sanath, you should realize that giving the chance to someone young is much better for SL cricket.

Look, Sanath was great while he lasted, but now he is too old to be active in the field and he isnt that great at batting. Although he is undoubtedly a legend he shouldnt be playing anymore perhaps coaching like his mate marvan?
He will just take up a batting place on the side when tharanga or paravitana is better. He had a great run but its time to hang the shirt up, but by all means stay involved in Sri Lanka Cricket.

Face of Joker, love this photo. What makes him to pick for national side? His form? He was keep failing with Bloomfield.

Lucky he was not picked for world cup otherwise we would not even make Q. finals.

Sanath, you better face for your match fixing allegation. Don't need you anymore.

We have good youngsters who can do the job for us and most importantly they need the experience. Sanath is 42 and he's not in such amazing form to push his way into the national side. I'm sorry Sana, I'm a huge fan, but I'm totally against your wishes.
