Test
Pakistan kick off their tour of Sri Lanka with two T20s next month.Since their first visit to the island in 1986, Pakistan have played six Test series in Sri Lanka and have won three, lost one and drawn two of those series. Of the 15 Test matches they have played in Sri Lanka, Pakistan have won six and lost three. However, on their last visit in 2009, they lost 2-0 to the hosts.

In total, both sides have played 40 Tests against each other — Pakistan have won 16 and Sri Lanka have won nine (drawn: 15). Only three of Sri Lanka's nine Test wins against Pakistan have come on home soil.

While Pakistan's 765/6 (declared) at Karachi in 2009 is the highest team total between the two teams in the five-day format, their 600/8 (declared) at Galle is their highest Test total in Sri Lanka and the highest Test total by both teams in Sri Lanka. The lowest total in Test matches between the two teams came when Sri Lanka were bowled out for 71 in 28.2 overs at Kandy in 1994.

Kumar Sangakkara has scored 1830 runs against Pakistan (average: 79.56, centuries: 7, fifties: 7, matches: 13), which is the most runs scored by a batsman from either side when playing each other in Test matches.

Younis Khan's 313 made at Karachi in 2009 is the highest individual Test score. For Sri Lanka, Sanath Jayasuriya's 253 at Faisalabad in 2004 is the highest Test score made against Pakistan.

But in Test series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, Aravinda de Silva leads the table with 737 runs (average 46.06, centuries: 4, matches: 10).

Wasim Akram has taken 30 Test wickets in Sri Lanka, which makes him the highest wicket-taker from both sides when it comes to Tests series played on the island. But no bowler has taken more wickets than Muttiah Muralitharan in all Test matches played between the two teams (wickets: 80).

Interestingly, Nuwan Kulasekara has taken 20 Pakistani wickets from just four Tests at an average of 16.75.

Both Rangana Herath and Saeed Ajmal are expected to feature prominently in the upcoming series and both spinners have tasted success when playing against each other. Ajmal has 32 wickets from six Tests against Sri Lanka and Herath 36 wickets from nine matches against Pakistan.

ODI
In Sri Lanka, Pakistan have played 28 ODIs against the hosts. Both teams have won 13 of those 28 ODis each (no result: 2).

Overall Pakistan lead the table, having won 76 of the 127 ODIs played between the two sides since 1975 (tied: 1, no result: 3).

Pakistan's 321/5 at Colombo in 2009 is the highest team total by both sides on Sri Lankan soil. Their 371/9 against Sri Lanka made in Nairobi in 1996 is the highest team total in ODI matches between the two teams overall.

Sri Lanka bowled out Pakistan for 75 runs in 2009 at Lahore, which is the lowest ODI team total in encounters between them. But in 1986, Pakistan dismissed the hosts for 116, which is the lowest total in ODIs between the two teams on the island.

While Jayasuriya holds the record for the most runs made by a batsmen in all Pakistan v Sri Lanka ODI encounters, Khan's 536 runs in Sri Lanka makes him the highest run scorer in ODIs played between the two sides on Sri Lankan soil.

Mahela Jayawardene's 123 at Dambulla in 2009 is the highest individual ODI score in encounters between the two teams in Sri Lanka. Tillakaratne Dilshan's 137 not out at Lahore in 2009 is the highest score made in all Pakistan v Sri Lanka ODI encounters.

Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker both in matches played in Sri Lanka and ODIs played against Pakistan overall (96 ODI wickets against Pakistan and 27 ODI wickets against Pakistan in Sri Lanka).

Shahid Afridi is Pakistan's most successful bowler against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka, taking 17 Sri Lankan wickets at 23.94.

T20
Pakistan won the only T20 they have played in Sri Lanka against the hosts and lead 5-2 over Sri Lanka in all T20 matches played against them.

Pakistan's 189/6 at Johannesburg against Sri Lanka during the ICC World Twenty20 in 2009 is the highest T20 total in matches between the two sides. Their 172/5 against the hosts at Colombo in 2009 is the highest T20 team total in Sri Lanka v Pakistan T20 encounters on the island.

Shoaib Malik (186) and Afridi (50) are the highest run scorers in T20 matches between the two sides overall and in Sri Lanka respectively.

Sangakkara's 64 not out is the highest score by a batsman in all T20 encounters between the two teams and Afridi's 50 runs is the highest score made in Sri Lanka.

Umar Gul is the highest wicket taker in all T20s matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Ajmal's three wickets in the only T20 played between the two sides on Sri Lankan soil makes him the highest T20 wicket taker in Sri Lanka in matches between them.
