ICC World Twenty20 2012The International Cricket Council (ICC) has allowed participating teams more time to select their final squads for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20 2012 tournament, cricket's governing body said today in a statement.

"All participating men’s teams must have its 15-player squads into the ICC no later than Friday, August 24, 2012," the statement said, allowing a six-day extension requested by "several" participants.

Sri Lanka, according to ESPNCricinfo, is one of the teams to have requested more time to name their 15-man squad.

The final Sri Lankan squad is likely to be named at the conclusion of the ongoing Sri Lanka Premier League T20 tournament.

Six teams have already announced their final squads for the tournament – Australia, Bangladesh, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa.

It is interesting and yet intriguing to say the least that Srilanka has asked for the deadline to be extended?? Suffice to say that Srilankan selectors have not clear on the make up the final 15 for the World cup, and want to see the players performances in ongoing SLPL before deciding who gets in!!

That augurs well. That means when they finally pick the squad it will be on merit not on Nepotism or other involvement!! But should we also think that procrastination means selectors are going to suprise us by including a BOLTER??? Hope so!!

When they annonced the squad of 30 including flat track Maestro Mubarak, Use by date passed Chamara Silva, man who have been given more life's Chamara Kapugedara, Bit and Piece but master on none Dilruwan Perera and players who are more suited for Tests like Prasanna Jayawardane & Thilina Kandamby??? These players should have been left out for starters!!The reason behind this extension because they picked runners instead of sprinters to run 100 meters!!!

People like me and many more Srilankans who vented our spleen on non selection youngsters are Finally vindicated!!
Compared to above mentioned and look at performance of Angelo Perera & Dilshan Munaweera. Say no more??

The problem Srilankan selectors have is whether they can bring players outside the selected pool of 30 in to the squad. I don't know the rule on that. But surely something Srilankan selectors have to think about.

We have been thrashed by Indians and our young calves got booted out of under 19 world cup finals by Bangladesh. Being Srilankan supporter we have suffered enough. It hurts even more when we loose to our Neighbors!!!

Like many Srilankans I am hoping against all hope. IF WE CAN"T WIN THE WORLD CUP IN OUR OWN BACKYARD ...then we have a Problem!!!!! Please Do Something! Surprise us! IT IS NOT TOO LATE!
