Sri Lanka today announced their final 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 2012 which takes place in September.

Two uncapped players Dilshan Munaweera and Akila Dananjaya have been included.

Dananjaya, an 18-year-old with no first-class or List A experience, was initially picked in the 30-man preliminary squad thanks to a recommendation by captain Mahela Jayawardene. With a wide repertoire of deliveries, including a doosra similiar to Saeed Ajmal's, Dananjaya has been impressive in the ongoing Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL).

Munaweera's selection has been felt as long overdue by the local media. He is viewed as a hard-hitting opening batsman who strikes the ball cleanly.

Ajantha Mendis, who has missed competitive cricket in recent times due to injury, has made his way back into the squad after a good showing at the SLPL.

Mahela Jayawardene has been named captain, and Angelo Mathews has been picked to be his deputy.

The ICC World Twenty20 gets underway on September 18 with hosts Sri Lanka taking on Zimbabwe in Hambantota.

Squad: Ajantha Mendis, Akila Dhanajaya, Angelo Mathews (VC), Dilshan Munaweera, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeevan Mendis, Kumar Sangakkara, Lahiru Thirimanne, Lasith Malinga, Mahela Jayawardene (C), Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga, Thisara Perera, Tillakaratne Dilshan.

is that only me who thinks dilshan should bat @ number 4 in t20? anybody in our team are capable of opening in t20 and get some quick runs, but dilshan is the only one who can score freely in the middle overs and he's the only one who can keep the momentum, and he's better finisher than anybody else, and even in ipl he has done well when he bats @ number 4 position, i think most explosive player of any side should bat at number 4 in t20, it has worked for india in 2007 with UV and 2010 with KP

I think,
1. Mahela -bat
2. Thirimanne - bat
3. Sanga -bat
4. Mathews-bat/bowl (fast med)
5. Dilshan-bat/bowl (spin-right)
6. J.Mendis- bat/bowl (leg brk - right)
7. Thisara- bat/bowl (fast med)
8. Nuwan Kula- bat/bowl (fast med)
9. Herath- bowl (spin-left)
10.Akila Dananjaya- bowl (Mystery)/ Ajantha Mendis ( not against India/Pak)
11.Malinga- bowl (pace)

Malinga - 4 overs (pace)
Mathews/Thisar/N.Kula - 8 overs (med fast)
Herath/AkilaDan/J.Mend - 8 overs (spin variety)
Dilshan - part time bowler

I think this is the best selection we had for a long time. I am extremly happy for not including Tharanga (who is more suitable for test matches and not T20)and Kapugedera.Kapu is not consistance in his performance and we may have to wait for another 20 matches or so to see him performing as he did few days back. We must not forget that he played all his shots that day against some loose bowling of Thushara and Prasad. Munaweera with a slight adjustment in his shot selection (must rotate the strike by pushing and nudging the ball instaed of trying to hit hard at everyball) can become our next Sanath. He is a great timer and middling the ball so nicely that he can clear the fence at any time of the inning.
My final XI is Dilshan, Munaweera, Kumar, Mahela, Chandimal/Lahiru, Mathews, Jeewan, Thisara, Kula, malinga& Akhila

Asantha de Mel et al, Take a Bow!! You have selected the best squad available. To select someone outside the selected 30 it is commendable!! As I mentioned previously I would have liked to see a BOLTER in final 15 but you have included not one but two??? Munaweera & Dhananjaya!! WOW!!!

With a bare Trophy cabinet since 1996 (Not counting ASIA CUP wins) and with successive insipid performances in the shorter form of the game, I am like many other Srilankans thought there is NO LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNELL..but this selection has given me and other Srilankans GLEAM OF HOPE!!! Yes! I am really excited about our chances in T20 world cup.

By rightfully selecting these youngsters who are our future hopes, but also to BLOVIATING IGNORAMUS LEECH LICKER like Ajay Jadeja who is still carrying the mental scars from 1996 that we have Plethora of Talented cubs in our system.

On the other hand I do feel for Kaushalya Weeeraratne & Chamara Kapugedara. Kaushalya had a good tournament so far and should consider himself very unlucky. At the same token Chamara's last batting performance deserve a call up.But I think Chamara left it bit too late for selectors to consider him in the mix.I do understand there is no room for both in the squad of 15. If Nuwan Kulasekara and Kumar Sangakkara doesn't come through then Kaushalya Weeraratne & Chamara Kapugedara should be the right replacements for them.

Enough said, I really believe that the selectors have done their job in selecting the squad on merit. Whoever involved in this welcome change...GIVE YOURSELVES A PAT ON YOUR BACK!!!It's now up to the players to deliver.

I am very confident they WILL!!!!!

Kapu's last 10 innings in one dayers. 9,62,0,7,1,2,17,12,10.9.

Last 4 innings for Sri Lanka A team. 0,0,38,8.

Last 10 innings in T20i. 19,7,16,37,12,13,11,2,47,3.

Its time that the selectors give 112 (Kapu's one day and T2Oi total matches) chances to other youngsters like Dilshan Munaweera, Chaturanga Kumara, Dushmantha Chameera, Madushanka Ekanayaka and Akila Dananjaya in the coming years.

If they do represent Sri Lanka in the future, suffice to say all of them will get dropped after 20-25 matches if they dont perform. Kapu is very lucky to get 112 chances.

Kapu has exellent T20 statistics..I dont know why some dont have cricketing brain to understand his talents of stroke making and power hitting..This is a world cup..Can uncapped player like Munaweera perform better than Kapu..in a world cup experience also matter..

@Mayan you from the past? btw we r from the future 2012 :)

oh btw Mayan do you know that where you come from " the past " a talented Sri lankan batsman called Marvan Atapattu his first 6 test inning he got 5 ducks still selectors gave him the chance because they saw he has that potential to become a hero someday ( i hope u were not following cricket at that time :) ) but do you know that kapu got only 3 ducks in his 39 straight odis (2008-2009) ? anyways you have another 3 more years to go , see ya then :)
