Fans launch petition against Sri Lanka Cricket

By Ryan Francis | September 11, 2013

PhotoA petition has been launched by cricket fans to highlight their displeasure and lack of confidence in the executive committee currently governing Sri Lanka Cricket and the electoral process that has seen candidates mysteriously dropping out of the race at the last minute to allow individuals with ties to the ruling party to win uncontested.

Hosted on the internationally-renowned petition website change.org, the petition has received global coverage and has gathered much momentum in the 24 hours since its launch.

"We have no faith or confidence in the process in place to appoint cricket board officials," the petition states. "As evident by recent elections, the utmost important positions are filled uncontested. We wish to express that such tactics are only viewed by the fans and the cricket-loving public as an insult to our intelligence."

The petition calls on the Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa to replace the current executive-committee "and place the governing of cricket within an interim-committee headed by a reputed, trusted and ethical individual."

In addition, it stresses on the need to allow a new committee "sufficient time and authority to refocus on what is in the best interest of Sri Lanka Cricket and plan for a fair and democratic transfer of the administration of cricket to qualified individuals with high moral and ethical standards."

Since DS De Silva (whom I knew since he was in my Dads school)and his committee with his 2 nephws whom i also knew(ironically DS bro DH is a good friend,), SLC has gone from bad to worse and I have read comments from severla onlines criticising the regime and wondered why no action. The King pin is the secretary who has considerable influence.
I am glad IC too has come to the fore. Journos like Rex, Samith Samath, Saadi, SR Para, Channaka commenting unanimously and even foreigners, there has to be food for thought. The President relies on advisors like Sanath.
So much to be ckeaned up. How many coaches and selectors and manages are silenced by giving them jobs. What is Atapattu, Kalpage doing? Sweet buggerall. Why is Sanath so prominent. In Austraia, it is the coach Lehman who doew most selctions.
God save SL cricket or else soon no more Cricket and 2 new stadiums will be white elephants.
My blood boils even thogh i am overseas for last 25 yrs nd no officials from Neil Perera downwards.I have no hidden agenda and am a septuagenarian nd old but wise.

Further to the above, there have been so many VP who were there only to make numbers. Only because Mathi criticised the SEc, so much is said, Same when Kumar did same. Has Nish noyhing else than bring abou divisions etc. People like Maichael de Z nd Mohan who wer agst the regime, re now with them as they have no principles or dignity. hats off to Ana P, Tissera, Sidath to name aa few.
I wonder why i keep wasting my time as i decided to have nil with SLC. They shud be in dog house.

SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga should be sacked immediately. He is the main man behind all the controversies.

Thanks to all the hard work put in by honest and dedicated team of people (players as well as administrators) who were responsible for Sri Lanka gaining test status, then leading to winning world cup and all the fame and wealth SLC earned when gradually politics and corrupt officials started to play dirty with all rich resources Sri Lanka Criket (SLC) had in their kitty as well as with talented players alike.

When cricketers retire or resign from SLC many faces at Office SLC remains for decades. This is not good for the ruling party.
