According to Sri Lanka's chairman of selectors Sanath Jayasuriya, Tillakaratne Dilshan may retire from Test cricket after the series against Pakistan next January.

Jayasuriya stressed on the need to utilise New Zealand A's ongoing tour of Sri Lanka to prepare for Dilshan's retirement.

"There is a likelihood of Dilshan retiring from the longer version of the game after the Pakistan series, so we have to be ready," Jayasuriya was quoted as saying by Sri Lanka's Sunday Times newspaper earlier this month.

"At the top we have Dimuth Karunaratne and Udara Jayasundera opening the batting. Kaushal Silva could come in at number three with [Dinesh] Chandimal batting at number four."

Dilshan, 36, has previously hinted that his Test retirement was around the corner, when he told reporters in Australia last year that he would play limited-over cricket until the 2015 World Cup, but admitted that he was uncertain over his Test future.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are scheduled to play a three-match Test series in UAE, which starts with the first Test on December 31 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka are also scheduled to play a two-match Test series in England next June.

it's good decision.but i don't think it will implement.
because Minster and Other Cricket officials may prevent it
after great 190+ in england his test form is poor despite odd fifties.and regularly we saw he got out after getting 50
and these days lot of young and talented cricketers are waiting out side team without any chance.
Kaushal silva has been waiting two years with super quality batting in A team
Dimuth,Kithruwan,Chathuranga,Ashan priyangan playing superbly in A team.
in test all given cricketers are better than current Dilshan
they all can play long innings
but he is still number one batsmen in ODI he should play ODI until next world cup.

@uppercut
Chandimal get 2 Centuries and Thrimanne get one centry in last serious
if arvandina or arjuna plays test cricket they also can get 100
in 1999 dilshan came because of Arjuna,Aravainda,Mahanama sack off the team by d selection commitee even they prefrom well in Test Cricket
other wise he may get 169 against in 1999 zimbabwe tour
their for he should be responsible for retire
not him Mahela all lack of form in all formats
only sanga should have a place in srilankan test 11
but current selection committee is not confident to axed.
even 40+ they may not do it
and our fans also very blind they think only dil, mahi and sanga can play well.
they think others can't do nothing.
think of other countries how they give chance to youngers.
eg:how gambir replace by dhawan, sewag replace by rohit sharma
keep going like this."world oldest cricket team" in srilanka
Good Luck

@sanjeewa, relax bro, am also of the view that Dilshan should call it a day in tests, but NOT BECAUSE he s too old or out of form, just because we have to blood in the youngsters. But u can't question the guy's form or old age.

Australians are already paying a huge price for axing Katich and Hussey brothers, claiming they are too old, while there were no clear replacements for them.

He'll definitely make more of an impact in the shorter formats; bringing in the youngsters from the A team would be great, they are in fine form.
