Mubarak to lead Sri Lanka at 2010 Asian Games

October 29, 2010 (Island Cricket): Jehan Mubarak, the captain of the Sri Lankan provincial side, Wayamba, has been appointed as captain of Sri Lanka for the 2010 Asian Games starting in China next month.

Mubarak, 29, will lead a squad of experienced first class cricketers to China, which will see the likes of Jeevantha Kulathunga, Indika de Saram, Nuwan Soyza, Dilhara Lokuhettige and Kaushal Lokuarachchi, among other well known domestic players representing Sri Lanka. Notably, Tillakaratne Dilshan's brother, Tillakaratne Sampath, has also been included in the squad.

Cricket will make its debut at the games this year despite India's absence. The Indian cricket board has chosen not to send a team to China, but Asian neighbours Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will participate.

Squad: Jehan Mubarak (Captain), Jeevantha Kulathunga (Vice Captain), Kaushalya Weeraratne, Chinthaka Jayasinghe, Indika de Saram, Nuwan Soyza, Dilhara Lokuhettige, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Dilshan Munaweera, T.M. Sampath (WK), Kushal Janith - (WK), Isuru Udana, Sanjeewa Weerakoon, Gayan Wijekoon, Malinga Bandara.

Stand by: Tharanga Lakshitha, Mahela Udawatta, Gihan Rupasinghe, Hasantha Feranando.

Seems to be very good team with some new blood in it. Hopefully their performance will bring more life and choice into our island's cricket. Good luck in the first ever cricket to be played in the Asian Games.

A couple of young prospects like Bhanuka and Dimuth should have been included on this tour.

Yes I agree with some of the above comments. I don't like the damn selectors of our Cricket council. They always poke their nose.

this is not a good talented side this i a political team i mean this is not srilanka team this theUPFA cricket team ,i say this becouse there is no palce to the taented players like maharoof kandamby ,denesh chandimal ,terimanne,banuka Ext ext, so this is truly a political team
